Is Emmanuel Adebayor Spurs' Hero in Disguise?

Emmanuel Adebayor has been almost non-existent this season. Only, a look at the official squad list tells you that the Togolese striker is actually still part of Tottenham Hotspur team.

So, is it time for Spurs to give him another chance?

Adebayor had a very indifferent season last year, yet did show glimpses of his former, classy self. In the times that he hid from the ball and avoided any form of hard work, he was not a favoured man in Spurs fans eyes. Perhaps if he was given another chance, a final chance, in this team, he could finally have a solid season where he turns up to every game.

Roberto Soldado looks a bit lonely up front and appears to be struggling to transfer his form from La Liga to the Premier league. This is mainly due to the lack of service he has received so far, service he so desperately craves. Roberto makes intricate runs and looks for the ball in places only very good strikers do, yet at Tottenham, his movement has rarely been rewarded so far. A player like Adebayor could win the ball, get it under control and give a lay off to Soldado. We saw Adebayor’s flick to Gylfi Sigurdsson against Chelsea last year, and I’m sure Soldado would appreciate that same sort of service from his strike partner.

Adebayor and Soldado could forge a brilliant striker partnership. Whenever Jermaine Defoe has been pitted up front with Soldado, the pair haven’t seemed to be an ideal one. Adebayor is more suited to the role of a supporting striker compared to the poacher nature of Defoe’s game. Not to say that Emmanuel cannot shoot, for he certainly can and I’m sure that a plentiful supply of crosses from Townsend would really give Adebayor something to feed off.

Adebayor could play a number ten role for Soldado, dropping deeper in order to get on the ball and provide Soldado with the kind of service he needs. It would link up Tottenham’s attack, making it all the more fluid.

Is Adebayor really a possibility Spurs could use, or is he just a man who is past his best, and happy to sit on the bench to collect his paycheck? There may only be one way to find out, with the bonus being that it my also spark Soldado’s Premier League career into life.
