Fuel it Up Texas Style: An Historic Win, Spoiled Rich Kids, The Chase Continues

Welcome to “Fuel It Up”!  The racing world is chock full of intriguing stories, but sifting through them to get a good general sense of the landscape can be challenging.  In Fuel It Up, I take the biggest, more interesting storylines and present them to you in a quick, compact 300-words-or-less format.

The winner of this week’s paint scheme award goes to Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the #88 AMP Energy Gold/7-Eleven Chevrolet.  Special mention to Kyle Busch in the #18 Snickers Toyota…………….  Darryl Wallace Jr. became the first African American to win a NASCAR national series race in 50 years when he won the Camping World Truck Race in Martinsville……………  Christmas Abbott, who in February became the first female pit crew member in NASCAR, has left her position without changing a tire.  Abbott, who was employed by Michael Waltrip Racing, is no longer with the team.  No details about the reason for the departure were given……………  Talk about a nasty divorce, Kevin Harvick who is leaving Richard Childress Racing after this season, got into it with the Dillon boys after the Truck race on Saturday.  The Dillon boy’s happen to be the Grandchildren of Harvick’s Sprint Cup boss, Richard Childress.  Ty Dillon seemed to wreck Harvick during the truck race at Martinsville Saturday.  Harvick then called brothers Ty and Austin Dillon “spoiled rich kids” after the race.……………  Greg Biffle, who’s had a miserable Chase run, was upset with Jimmie Johnson at the end to Sunday’s race.  He grabbed Johnson around the collar, upset that Johnson took his rear bumper off.  Biffle apologized for the way he handled the situation the next day……………. Johnson and Matt Kenseth are tied in points with just three races left in the season.  Jeff Gordon, coming off his first victory of the season, sits in third place 27 points behind.  Next is Kevin Harvick, 28 points behind, and Kyle Busch, 36 points behind……………  NASCAR is considering changing the single car qualifying system for next season.  They would like to implement the road-course style of qualifying at all but two tracks.  Daytona and Talladega would continue the single car format……………  The Grand Marshall for Sunday’s race at Texas Motor Speedway is Anthony Fox, the US Secretary of Transportation.  The Texas Christian University will perform the National Anthem.  The weather for Sunday calls for clear skies with no chance of rain.  Temperatures are expected to be near 70(F) 21(C)……………  The race can be seen in the US on Sunday at 3:00 pm (est) on ESPN.  Canadian viewers can see the race on TSN.
