PODCAST – The National Women’s Soccer League certainly had a major week with big news and major events taking over the holiday period. Rachael Kriger joins Sean Garmer and Erik Watkins in discussing the big moves from the 2022 NWSL College Draft and also some controversy involving the Portland Thorns and Sydny Nasello being drafted with the 13th pick. Not to mention, they also have a full NWSL Expansion Draft Review discussing the moves for Angel City FC and more like trades for the San Diego Wave.

Things didn’t stop there for NWSL though, as the framework for the 2022 season was also released with a 22 game schedule, the return of the NWSL Challenge Cup, six teams making the playoffs and a Championship game slated for the end of October. Also, how will the recent news of US Soccer no longer paying the club salaries of USWNT players affect the league? Does this start tightening the budgets for some teams?

Sean and Erik also discuss a little about the USA vs Bosnia-Herzegovina friendly and why Jordan Morris was one of the only bright spots in a very dour performance overall from the squad. Should there really be this uber excitement over a 17 game win season?

Finally, there are some possible big moves in tow for major USMNT players. Would it be a good idea for Christian Pulisic to go to Barcelona? What about Ricardo Pepi to Atletico Madrid? Serginio Dest to Bayern Munich? And even Weston McKinnie to Tottenham? The silly season is a month-long so get ready for even more rumors in the weeks ahead.

All of this and some big news concerning the CONMEBOL and the UEFA Nations League discussed on Soccer 2 the MAX.

Soccer 2 the MAX is a podcast about the world’s game from an American perspective. Each episode includes headlines, topics, and discussions that can be about anything that happened that week in Soccer, Futbol, or Football. Plus, a weekly Manchester United segment, and thoughts on the squad’s Sean Garmer and Erik Watkins support too.

About the Hosts

Sean Garmer: Being born into a Latino family, Sean grew up around the game of Futbol. No matter what you deem to call it, Mr. Garmer enjoys the sport. Sean played Defender growing up and then transitioned to Goalkeeper in High School. Due to the University of North Texas not having a Men’s Soccer team at the time, his playing career ended in 2005.

However, since then, he’s kept up with Soccer by watching his favorite teams and leagues, while also writing as well. Sean was paid to cover the 2010 World Cup and has also written about the beautiful game for several other outlets. He is a supporter of several teams all around the world, but his two major loves are FC Dallas and Manchester United.

Erik Watkins: While he was never really the best on the field, Erik’s always had a deep-rooted passion for the beautiful game. From discovering it in Maryland thanks to DC United to cheering on Manchester United since the days of Ruud van Nistelrooy. Not to mention, considering donning purple hair to cheer Orlando City SC today. From MLS to USL and NASL (Viva Armada!) to even dreaming of training and playing in the MASL, if it’s soccer, he’s usually watching it.
