NWSL: Ebony Salmon is on her way to the Houston Dash

After not being properly utilized in Louisville, English striker Ebony Salmon has now secured a trade over to the Houston Dash.

The Houston Dash will be hosting Kansas City this weekend in the NWSL, will their new signing feature for the first time? The Texas team traded for English striker Ebony Salmon, as per Meg Linehan, from Racing Louisville, bolstering their already strong frontline.

Where will she fit in in Houston?

Fourth-placed Houston boast the third best attacking record in the division behind only San Diego and Portland. Nichelle Prince with five, and Rachel Daly with four are the current team leaders and there is scope for an English connection between the latter and new arrival Ebony Salmon. Interestingly enough, Salmon’s only ever England cap, that came back in February 2021, saw her enter as a substitute in the place of Daly.

At the time of this solitary cap, Ebony Salmon was a Bristol City player. The forward was a shining light in an otherwise struggling team which went on to face relegation out of the WSL. Now she is a fully fledged NWSL player and has a second team stateside, following her departure from Louisville.

As previously mentioned, Prince and Daly are the key contributors in front of goal for the Dash and it will be interesting to see where Ebony Salmon can fit in alongside them. Alongside this trio in the attacking third is the likes of Cameroonian international Michaela Abam, the experienced Elizabeth Eddy who herself is a new face in town and Missouri-born Shea Groom.

What led to Ebony Salmon Leaving Racing Louisville?

So, why has the youngster been shown the exit door in Louisville? When she was on the field, she seemed to form a strong partnership with Nadia Nadim but she herself faced injuries whilst Salmon maybe wasn’t used properly. Fans of the league are hoping that Salmon will see more minutes in Houston and the finances involved in the deal point towards this as well.

Ebony Salmon is not in the Lionesses squad for the Euros next month but with a successful spell in Houston, she can certainly force the issue for Sarina Wiegman.
