Montreal on their loss to Real Salt Lake

CF Montreal hosts Forge FC this Wednesday evening (7 pm Kickoff) at Stade Saputo. Wilfried Nancy’s side dropped points for the first time at home this MLS season, losing 2-1 to Real Salt Lake. These were his comments following this defeat:

“We had some struggles early on in the season and we recovered from those too,” said Montreal head coach Wilfried Nancy. “It’s not the end of the world, we’re going to look into it and start looking for the best solutions to approach the upcoming game.”

This quarterfinal matchup will mark the second time these two clubs face off. Forge FC will be looking for revenge after last season’s 8-7 defeat to CF Montreal decided on penalties. This will push Montreal to go out and play for the win after last year’s scare. Look out for Forge FC’s left-winger David Choiniere, who moved up the ranks with CF Montreal, to suit up and battle against his brother Mathieu Choiniere who currently plays for Montreal. David Choiniere currently leads the team with 3 goals in 6 matches in the CPL. On the other side of the pitch, midfielder Djordje Mihailovic has tallied seven goals in 13 matches played so far this season.

Forge FC and where they currently stand in the Canadian Premier League

Forge FC currently sits in fifth place with an even record of two wins, two draws and two losses (eight points). The orange outfit will be fired up to go all in and walk away with a victory. Their bolstering attack currently averages 1.83 goals per game thus far in the CPL and is coming in hot off a four-nill blowout win over Halifax Wanderers FC over the weekend. Both sides have been displaying an attacking style of play so far, so expect this to be an open game on the offensive front.

Here are the match highlights from last season when these two sides last faced in the Canadian Championship.

The game between Forge FC and CF Montreal will start today at 7:00 p.m. ET at Saputo Stadium. The team from Hamilton will look to redeem themselves after losing in penalties last year to Montreal at Tim Hortons Field. This is while Montreal will look to make it 2-0 in two years against Forge FC in the Canadian Championship. The game will be shown live on OneSoccer and Telus.
