FC Edmonton: Jeff Paulus says signing expected next week

FC Edmonton is expecting to sign a new player next week. The fall season started, the transfer window open, it is an opportune time to make additions. Joe McMaster spoke with head coach Jeff Paulus about a potential addition.

FC Edmonton is expecting to sign another player in the upcoming week, perhaps as early as Monday.

Earlier in the year, FC Edmonton head coach Jeff Paulus spoke exclusively to Last Word on Soccer. During that interview, Paulus stated that one of his players would be returning to school in the fall. He was hoping at the time to sign a European player in July.

After the match against Valour FC on Wednesday, Last Word on Soccer followed up with Paulus about these expected player moves. Paulus indicate that no players are heading back to school.

To follow up about whether FC Edmonton is still looking at signing someone, Paulus committed, “I can assure you we will be adding a player. Hopefully, I can have someone king of sorted out by Monday. We hope to make a big addition.”

In regards to who this player is or details about the player, Paulus was staying understandably tight-lipped.

Canadian transfer window

The Canadian transfer window opened July 9, and it stays open until Aug. 7. This provides the opportunity for Canadian Premier League teams to sign players from other countries.

Squad adjustments for the Fall Season

As the Fall Season for the CPL began on July 6, this window is set at an opportune time to allow for CPL teams to adjust following the Spring Season. Teams will surely be making the necessary moves so that they can do to boost their squads’ chances of taking the fall title.

Cavalry FC won the Spring Season and will face the winner of the Fall Season in the CPL Championship. If Cavalry FC wins the Fall Season, they will then face off against the team with the best aggregate point total between the two seasons.

Stay tuned to find out who Edmonton is bringing into the squad assuming negotiations go as indicated.
