Montclair, NJ– The New York Red Bulls USOC campaign came to a screeching halt on Tuesday night, as RBNY fell to the Revolution in Extra-Time. The Red Bull organization moved the match to MSU Soccer Park at Montclair State University for undisclosed reasons.

USL Representation

RBNY announced the short-term loan of Red Bulls II defender Rece Buckmaster today. He made his first-team debut for this match. He joins former USL teammate Tom Barlow in the Starting XI. All but two starters have, at one time or another, played for the Red Bulls’ USL side (Tim Parker, Amro Tarek).

Revolution Strike First, RBNY Level

Juan Agudelo scored the opening goal in the first minute of the game. A tussle in front of the goal ended with the ball skidding past goalkeeper Ryan Meara. While the Red Bulls renewed their press, a shot from Tim Parker went over the crossbar. Barlow leveled in the 19th minute, receiving a long ball from Sean Davis. With the sun setting behind the trees, the Red Bulls showed a renewed spark in the attack. Andreas Ivan and Omir Fernandez made strong challenges on Revs goalkeeper Matt Turner in the first half.

Red Bulls Get in Front

Cristian Casseres Jr. put the Red Bulls ahead in the 54th minute. His shot from the top of the box blasted past Turner.  When the Revolution attacked immediately after the score, Meara’s diving header just outside the box kept the ball out of the net. Alex Muyl was brought down in the box in the 65th minute but was unable to convert the kick from the spot. He tried to make up for it a moment later with a shot in the run of play, but Turner made the save again.

New England Levels, Goes Down a Man

Just short of the full regulation time, Revolution midfielder Teal Bunbury brought the game level once again. In stoppage time, Caicedo earned a second yellow and was sent off. Referee Rosendo Mendoza blew the whistle after six minutes of stoppage to sent the game into extra time.

Extra Time Heroics for Revolution

While both teams had chances, it was Bunbury who broke through in the 109th minute. The Revolution was able to hold on and eliminate the Red Bulls from the Open Cup.
