Frisco, Texas – A first half strike from Daniel Salloi and a Penalty Kick save from Tim Melia Helped Sporting KC all three points against FC Dallas in a pivotal match for the Western Conference Standings.

Sporting KC Route Dallas 3-0

Sporting KC and FC Dallas met for the final time of the 2018 MLS Regular season with the winner moving into first place in the Western Conference standings. Sporting KC were able to get the job done on the road.

Daniel Salloi scored a nifty goal just before the stroke of half time, slotting home a rebound through Reggie Cannon’s legs to make it 1-0.

Sporting could’ve had the league earlier, when Felipe Gutierrez earned a Penalty Kick. But Ilie Sanchez’s attempted was saved by Dallas ‘keeper, Jesse Gonazlez.

FC Dallas had a penalty kick chance themselves but Tim Melia made his sixth penalty kick save in the last two years to keep it 1-0.

Roger Espinoza added to the lead in the 64th minute, slamming home a loose ball from a set piece situation. Johnny Russell added a third goal off of a penalty kick in the final minutes.

Three Things

  1. Sporting KC just need one point to clinch first place in the Western Conference. A huge six point week from Sporting KC has put them in prime position heading into their Decision Day matchup against LAFC. Sporting are heading into the postseason in fine form, unbeaten in their last five matches.
  2. FC Dallas have to be frustrated, but they had plenty of chances that they wasted. They will need to win on the final match-day to ensure staying in the top two. They would need a point to ensure a home game.
  3. Sporting KC broke their franchise record for goals in a season, scoring 63 goals. Roger Espinoza’s goal was the one that broke their all-time record. This comes a year after Dom Dwyer was traded, allowing Sporting KC to bring in some top of the line attackers in the offseason. A 23 goal improvement from 2017 sees Sporting in the position they are in.
