COLUMBUS, Ohio (August 13, 2018) – Actor Mark Wahlberg visited the Buckeye State on Monday after buying the Bobby Layman Chevrolet plant in West Columbus.

Wahlberg told ABC6/FOX28 that he plans to be involved in the day-to-day operations of the dealership.

Wahlberg also has a love for sports. He claims to be a longtime sports fan. While being interviewed at the plant, he was asked the big question of having any interest in buying MLS original club Columbus Crew SC.

Many fans have reached out for comment. The purchase would stop the current Investor/Operator Anthony Precourt from relocating the team to Austin, Texas. Local investors who are interested in buying the first MLS franchise have been ongoing for months, and only recently, Columbus Partnership and MLS have been in ongoing talks.

When asked if the interest was there, Wahlberg replied.

Actually, you know what, I would. My dear friend Bob Kraft has not only the New England Patriots, but he owns the New England Revolution as well. I have a bunch of people who are involved. I think that may be something we need to discuss.”

Wahlberg was also in Columbus scouting locations for Wahlberger restaurants as well.

What Could Happen?

When the team originally purchased from Hunt Sports Group back in 2014 by Precourt Sports Ventures, there was some sort of release clause that allowed Precourt to relocate the team to Austin, Texas after three years.

If Wahlberg were to purchase Columbus, maybe then the stadium pitch idea from the folks at #SaveTheCrew would become feasible.

Could one imagine playing in a stadium like that?! With a jersey sponsor of Wahlbergers?!

Seriously, this would be amazing.

And if a “Hey Goat How’s Ya Mudda?” tifo doesn’t come up after that, people will feel incomplete.
