As the week slowly starts to come to a close the weekend is just over the horizon. And this weekend’s slate of games in Liga MX promises to be as exciting as ever. With roughly a month under each team’s belt we approach the pivotal point in a season where teams now must begin to get results. And as before Last Word on Soccer will break down the top three must see games for this weekend’s Jornada 5. As we understand, to watch every game sometimes is nearly impossible. This week will promise goals, thrills, and maybe a few spills along the way. Here is the top three must see games preview for the Liga MX week five.

Previewing Liga MX Week Five Top Three Matches

Tigres vs Pumas UNAM

Tigres are coming off an away defeat to Pachuca in last week’s round of play. While lately the team has yet to click, Ricardo Ferretti will be confident his team will show up. While many would argue their new three at the back formation is really not doing them any favors, how else do you fit in so much star power into this side? Tigres will be at home which will help the team grow in confidence. Once they can break down the defense and score the first goal things should start to pick up for Tigres.

Pumas on the other hand are coming of an ecstatic win over newly promoted side Lobos BUAP. Francisco Palencia’s men will come in good heart into the Volcan and will make life difficult for Tigres. While they haven’t been that well at defending this season, it will be important for them to keep their shape. A win would be amazing for the Mexico City side, but a draw would be welcomed just as well.

Guadalajara vs Puebla

Chivas come into the game after a terrible loss to Monterrey where they were destroyed, while Puebla are coming off a draw against Tijuana. Both teams have yet to win a match in this Apertura. Guadalajara will have to show in front of their home fans how capable they are of getting a result. With so much surrounding the Chivas camp in regards to head coach Matias Almeyda, it will serve the team and fans good to get their first three points.

But Puebla will be no easy team. And if they could somehow manage to get the first goal, Chivas could have a big mountain to climb over. Puebla have the capability to go to Guadalajara and come out with a favorable result. It just depends on them how they can handle the game and not give up goals like in their previous matches.

Toluca vs Necaxa

Still unbeaten in this Apertura run, Toluca play host to Necaxa looking to continue to grow their form. After a not so entertaining match against Cruz Azul last week, Toluca will be hopeful to get all three points at home. Even though they did not score in that game, they showed great defensive structure and good passing rhythm at times. Necaxa will be looking to pick up form after their loss against Leon last week. A team that was flowing with confidence now will have to look for it again in this game. Ignacio Ambriz, who many would have thought he’d have this team in a lower position, has a big task. Going away to Toluca is no easy ask, but he will feel his team can over power their opponent’s experience with their youth and explosive play.
