Jornada 4 Copa MX Preview

As Jornada 4 of this year's Copa MX competition approaches, which fixtures are generating the most intrigue among the nine that will be played.

Jornada 4 is approaching for Copa MX. Nine matches will be played over a two-day period on Tuesday and Wednesday. For some teams, this is a time for them to catch fire and gain some momentum in the Apertura season. For others, they look to close the gap on group leaders and qualify for the playoffs.

Here are the top five games to watch for this week.

Jornada 4 Copa MX Preview

Tijuana vs Puebla

Previously meeting in Jornada 3 of the Apertura season, we still saw a struggling Tijuana defense. The departure of Paul Arriola to DC United in MLS obviously had an impact on Xolos attacking third play despite scoring their first goal in the Apertura season. Puebla were unlucky not to walk away with a win. Despite having poor form in the Apertura thus far, both teams have performed well in the Copa MX tourney. One of these teams will take three points Tuesday night.

Club America vs Potros UAEM

In Jornada 3 of the Copa MX, Club America won 2-1 over Potros UAEM. After conceding an early goal to Potros UAEM. Club America bounced back as ‘Chino’ Romero netted a brace. With Guido Rodriguez suspended this game, it will be interesting to see how Miguel Herrera will line up against Potros UAEM. Herrera will probably change his tactics/formation to keep Potros UAEM guessing. Club America look to close the gap on Atlas who sit at top of the group.

Celaya FC vs Monterrey

Goals, goals, goals. Monterrey have scored 12 goals in all competitions so far this season. Aviles Hurtado has been leading the attack for Monterrey. The last time these two teams met was a thrashing as Monterrey went on to win 3-0 over Celaya FC. Fans surely will be in for a treat this game with as many goals Monterrey has scored.

Queretaro vs Pachuca

This is a game that will most likely decide the group winner. Queretaro leads the group by goal difference over Pachuca. After coming off a good win over Tigres, Pachuca look to continue to build off that success and seal a win against Queretaro who look to stay at the top of the group and cut Pachuca’s confidence. Both teams will be looking to build confidence and momentum continuing into the Apertura season.

Leon vs Veracruz

It’s a tale of contrasting fortunes in this matchup. Leon are currently top of the group after winning their first two games of the competition. Veracruz sit in last place with two losses, including a 2-1 defeat to this same Leon squad last week. A similar result would all but seal a spot in the knockout stage for Leon as they’d find themselves six points clear of second placed Oaxaca.
