The start of the Apertura 2017 left us with many thrills, a couple of spills, but mostly a great display of soccer. With the shocking elimination of Mexico in the Gold Cup Semifinal, it means teams will finally be getting their players back. This only adds to the excitement and entertainment that surrounds the Liga MX. Every match will have its own narrative and excitement, but at times watching all nine games can be a bit difficult. So here is our top three picks for this week’s Liga MX matches.

Previewing Liga MX Week Two Top Three Matches

Cruz Azul vs Guadalajara

After beating Tijuana 2-0 away from home, Cruz Azul come into this match on a hight note. Even though they lost star player Martin Rodriguez to injury last game, La Maquina will still feel confident. Edgar Mendez was the star against Xolos scoring two goals that game. Cruz Azul fans everywhere will be looking at him to do the same against Chivas. Guadalajara on the other hand come into this game as least favorites. Chivas will be looking for their first three points after a scoreless draw against Toluca. While they didn’t look so sharp in their last game, Chivas will now have mostly a completed squad. With players like Orbelin Pineda and Rodolfo Pizzarro finally incorporating themselves, Guadalajara should look better. The game has all the elements needed for a classic showdown. With two of Mexico’s most popular teams on display, one can only hope for a great game.

Pachuca vs America

Pachuca started their Apertura campaign last week with a defeat against Pumas. Los Tuzos will be looking to gain their first three points this game. Seeing as how this is Pachuca’s first home game of the season the team will hopefully to get a result. Star signing Keisuke Honda could even see his first minutes in the Liga MX this weekend. And if this was the case it be very interesting to see the Japanese in action. Club America also started their season with a home defeat to Queretaro last week. After looking dull for most of the game, America come into this match looking to turn the page. Four players will be returning to America for this game Pablo Aguilar, Renato Ibarra, Edson Alvarez, and Guido Rodriguez. Which means they will have a full strengthen side to compete against Pachuca. After both sides failed to qualify for the playoffs last season, they’ll both be looking to improve. As well as gain all three points.

Santos Laguna vs Tigres

Drawing 2-2 to newly promoted side Lobos BUAP was seen as more of a disappointment than anything else. Santos Laguna will be looking to redeem themselves this weekend in front of their home fans. Even after going down twice in that away game, it was their shier will and fighting spirit that saw them come back. In order to achieve a good result Santos will have to look inside themselves to the same. Tigres on the other hand come into this game confident and looking to score more goals. After a 5-0 smackdown against Puebla, Tigres front three will be looking to add to their tally. Tuca Ferretti’s side has shown to be key favorites to win this Apertura and another good result will only cement that statement. This game promises to have many of excitement as well as goals. The team with the better defense in the end will get the best result.
