U.S. Open Cup Preview: San Jose Earthquakes vs LA Galaxy

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES

The San Jose Earthquakes come into this game as key favorites. They will be looking to emulate that same result as last time when they knocked out the Seattle Sounders in the previous round. Even though they lost their last game against Atlanta United, San Jose will still be buzzing of their recent victory over the LA Galaxy not too long ago. With having had a mere stumble, San Jose will be looking to continue their good form. Also another thing to point out is that they will be able to count on home field advantage. This team’s confidence will be on a high looking down upon at a Galaxy side slowly falling apart. If they can get another impressive performance in the midfield from rookie Jackson Yueill, they should be in good shape to advance.

LA GALAXY

After a terrible and humiliating 6-2 defeat to Real Salt Lake last game, the LA Galaxy will be looking to pick up form and confidence. With one of their biggest rivals standing in their way, a win could mean redemption for this team. Although with the recent form this team has had it won’t be an easy task. So much negativity has surrounded the club as far as results and player injuries go. The only real positives this team can build upon will have to be their away form, which has been one of the best in the league. Another positive note for the Los Angeles side will be that Giovani Dos Santos will be available for the game. As far as the game goes, this will be the LA Galaxy’s first real test in the competition. They handily dispatched the USL’s Sacramento Republic by a 2-0 scoreline in the round of 16.
