Over the past four years, the tag team The WorkHorsemen – featuring JD Drake and Anthony Henry – were arguably one of the greatest tag teams in the US indies. Over that time frame, they held the EVOLVE Tag Team titles, as well as tag team titles in Atlanta Wrestling Entertainment (AWE), Rockstar Pro, and Freelance Wrestling (for a whopping 427-days). But while they were a top tier tag-team duo, they were also decorated singles competitors as well – Anthony Henry was the Full Impact Pro (FIP) World Champion for 509-days and the Premiere Wrestling Xperience (PWX) Champion, while Drake was the World Wrestling Network (WWN) Champion for 258-days. With their heavy involvement with EVOLVE, who continued to partner with WWE, it seemed to many that the WorkHorsemen would be WWE bound sooner rather than later. But this past January, WWE made their decision apparent, when they reportedly signed Anthony Henry as a singles competitor. But on Saturday, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) revealed their matches for this coming Tuesday’s edition of AEW DARK, and it was revealed that JD Drake would be making his AEW debut, in what would have been a main event match on the US indies only a year ago, as he is set to face Eddie Kingston in singles action.

“The Blue Collar Bad Ass” made his wrestling debut in 2014 as James Drake, starting out in the Mid-Atlantic indies around his South Carolina home, in such promotions as PWX and Carolina Wrestling Federation (CWF) Mid-Atlantic, before breaking out in 2017 with EVOLVE Wrestling and other top US indies like FIP, Pro Wrestling Guerilla (PWG), Glory Pro, Limitless Wrestling, ACTION Wrestling, Black Label Pro, Freelance, and others. In 2019, the WorkHorsemen traveled to Europe, competing in Germany’s Westside Xtreme Wrestling (wXw) and in the UK with Southside Wrestling Entertainment (SWE). As WorkHorsemen began to slow down on tag team bookings in the past year, Drake continued to prove his abilities as one of the top competitors in the ring, with big matches against Suge D, Nolan Edward, Tony Deppen, and Kevin Blackwood. Hopefully, his appearance on AEW DARK transpires into something more permanent and JD Drake finally gets the national flowers he so rightfully deserves.
