Preview: CHIKARA Earning the Lucha Libre Merit Badge (9/6/19)

The night before CHIKARA hosts Chikarasaurus Rex will be a very special event entitled Earning The Lucha Libre Merit Badge. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Scouts BSA Camping Program! Join CHIKARA at the Westampton Middle School in Mount Holly, NJ and you too can earn the Lucha Libre Merit Badge.

Solo Darling vs. Molly McCoy

Molly McCoy will be making her singles debut in CHIKARA against Solo Darling. Darling is a former Infinite Gauntlet winner and Campeon de Pareja. Solo has also had problems with Molly’s uncle, Dasher Hatfield. Molly has been very protective of her uncle, despite his despicable actions. Surely she won’t look past this as she looks to best the formidable Solo Darling. Can Molly earn her first singles victory and the Lucha Libre Merit Badge?

Boomer Hatfield vs. Der Wildebeest

It’s been one year since little Boomer Hatfield made his debut in CHIKARA. He’s grown since then, into the New Timey Prince of Swing. Boomer has yet to have an easy opponent and at Earning the Lucha Libre Merit Badge he will face Jakob Hammermeier’s Der Wildebeest. It was at Fright Knight in the Poconos where we first saw Der Wildebeest unleashed. He may have lost that encounter, but he certainly made an impression. Der Wildebeest returned for The Infinite Gauntlet where he picked up the victory over Missile Assault Man. Now the beast will have young Boomer in his sights.

Creatures of the Deep (Hermit Crab & Merlok) vs. Cornelius Crummels & Sonny Defarge

In a duel of rudo tag teams, we have the businessmen in Cornelius Crummels and Sonny Defarge returning to take on two of Oceanea’s Creatures of the Deep. Crummels and Defarge may have not been haunting CHIKARA this summer, but that’s because business has been up elsewhere. They have competed for Beyond Wrestling and Premier Championship Wrestling and participated in the third iteration of Stomp Out Cancer. The Hermit Crab and Merlok will be looking for their second point towards a shot at the Campeonatos de Parejas and readying themselves for King of Trios. Only one team can walk away with the point and the Lucha Libre Merit Badge.

Mike Quackenbush vs. Travis Huckabee

The last time these two met, it was over in just 54 seconds. This was at Live at Clipper Magazine Stadium back in July. It was the first round of the 2019 Johnny Kidd Invitational Tournament. Travis Huckabee was the 2018 JKI Winner, and now he lost in the first round, in less than one minute. Huckabee insists that this was just a fluke; there were inclement weather and darkness involved. Mike Quackenbush agrees and looks forward to their rematch encounter. Quackenbush may have taught Huckabee many things as his head trainer, but surely not everything. Could lightning indeed strike twice for Lightning Mike Quackenbush? Huckabee swears it won’t, but we’ll find out who gets to collect the Lucha Libre Merit Badge in Mount Holly.

Lucas Calhoun vs. Hallowicked

At Chikarasaurus Rex on September 7th, Lucas Calhoun will once again team with Stray Kat to challenge for the Campeonatos de Parejas. However, on September 6th, he will look to secure his third point towards a Grand Championship match. His opponent will not make this first-time encounter easy. Hallowicked is a generation one CHIKARA original and the only two-time CHIKARA Grand Champion. The Broad Sword of Nazmaldun is a feared force in CHIKARA and the Ol Jukejoint will have to rise to higher heights to defeat him. Hallowicked has called Calhoun an “abomination” and while he normally appreciates these, he will not take it easy on the Ol Jukejoint.

The Colony (Green Ant & Thief Ant) vs. The Grimy Scots (Hamish Stuart & Grizzly Duncan McBane)

At Earning the Lucha Libre Merit Badge, The Colony will welcome The Grimy Scots to CHIKARA. Green Ant and Thief Ant faced many trials in their first season of CHIKARA and now they are no longer the new team on the block. Hamish Stuart and “Grizzly” Duncan McBane have competed in the Maryland/District of Colombia/Virginia area in their time as a team. Regular haunts for them are the Eastern Wrestling Association, the National Wrestling League, and Route 33 Wrestling. If the Scots can best the Ants, not only will they gain their first point on the CHIKARA leader board, but will have defeated two of the current reigning King of Trios champions.

Danjerhawk vs. The Whisper

Danjerhawk is flying in and reporting for his first singles contest in almost a year. His last match was against Still Life with Apricots & Pears, the man who currently holds the Young Lions Cup. The Whisper is also a former Young Lions Cup holder and a high-ranking member Ophidian’s The Crucible. Also a former Campeon de Pareja, The Innovator of Silence is coming off of a big victory over Penelope Ford. Since the emergence of knowledge of The Crucible, The Whisper has only become more dangerous. Danjerhawk will have to make sure there is no rust on his wings if he’d like to fly away with the Lucha Libre Merit Badge!

Mick Moretti, Missile Assault Man, John Francis of Coronado & Razerhawk vs. Matt Makowski, Devantes, Ophidian & Lance Steel

Photo / CHIKARA

This giant atomicos match will pit members loyal to Mike Quackenbush and the original CHIKARA mission against those of The Crucible. Ophidian and Lance Steel will lead in their charges, Matt Makowski and Devantes to show what the fire truly reveals. A somewhat rag-tag crew in the form of Australian Mick Moretti, Missile Assault Man, Razerhawk and John Francis of Coronado will team for the first time. The members of the Crucible have the advantage of being like brothers, fighting for the same cause and united. Large, eccentric personalities will have to co-exist and work together for the CHIKARA faithful to succeed. Both Ophidian and Moretti will have large matches looming in the back of their minds on September 7th. They will have to not lose sight of the moment if they hope to lead their team to victory at Earning the Lucha Libre Merit Badge.

All of this fun and family-friendly action goes down on September 6th in Mount Holly, New Jersey. If you can’t make it out to enjoy in person, it will be available on CHIKARAtopia and IndependentWrestling.TV not long after the event.
