Tessa Blanchard Accepts Sami Callihan Challenge: “See You in Dallas, Bitch!”

After being the villain in the IMPACT Wrestling Knockouts division since her arrival in the spring of 2018, Tessa Blanchard‘s character took a shift towards the righteous following her victory over Gail Kim at IMPACT Rebellion this past April. Since then she’s turned her aggression on the men of the IMPACT roster, starting with Glenn Gilbertti (formerly Disco Inferno in WCW). She knocked Gilbertti out on the May 31st edition of IMPACT Wrestling, following months of anti-intergender and women’s wrestling rhetoric. Then just this past Friday, she defeated oVe member Jake Crist, much to the dismay of oVe leader, Sami Callihan.

The tensions got higher on Sunday night, following a tough loss to WrestleCircus Ringmaster Champion Scorpio Sky at WrestleCircus Big Top Revival. After another intergender classic from Blanchard (and Sky), Sami Callihan – who previously fought Gentleman Jervis on the card earlier that night – stormed the ring and attacked Blanchard. On Tuesday morning, after being revealed that Callihan would be facing Fallah Bahh this Friday night, Callihan mentioned that after he “destroys” Fallah Bahh, he would be calling out Tessa Blanchard.

Clearly still hot about Sunday’s attack in Texas, it didn’t take long for Tessa Blanchard to respond to Callihan’s challenge. She didn’t need to wait until Friday night to hear it, she had her answer right now. And if Sami Callihan wanted IMPACT’s Diamond at Slammiversary this year, then Tessa had five words for “The Draw”: “See you in Dallas, bitch!”

With it now set in stone, on Sunday, July 7 in Dallas, Texas at IMPACT Slammiversary XVII, Sami Callihan will put his money where his mouth is and face Tessa Blanchard in singles competition.

With Tessa vs Sami hitting IMPACT Slammiversary, it marks the first proper singles intergender match-up on one of the major’s PPV since ODB defeated Cody Deaner at TNA No Surrender in 2009. WWE’s last intergender singles match on PPV was Jacqueline vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr. at WWE Judgment Day in 2004. IMPACT has had some intergender match-ups this year – Tessa previously defeated Joey Ryan at the IMPACT United We Stand special event over WrestleMania weekend. But a high profile singles bout on one of IMPACT’s marquee events between two of their best talents from both the men and women’s divisions is a huge step for any of the major promotions.

And once she’s finished with Callihan, it’s not out of the realm of possibility for her to continue with other men on the roster. Tessa has already faced the likes of Johnny Impact and IMPACT World Champion Brian Cage in intergender matches on smaller indies, so they clearly have no issues wrestling the third generation star. Who knows? Perhaps by this time next year, Tessa Blanchard could become the first woman to hold the IMPACT World Heavyweight Championship.
