Preview: AAW Bad Times At The Blue Genie (5/31/19)

AAW Pro returns to Austin, Texas this Friday for a stacked event featuring the past, present and future of the company. Three titles are on the line; AAW Bad Times At The Blue Genie will bring Josh Alexander and Lucha Libre legend, Juventud Geurrera, back to regular action in this company. Big names like Jimmy Jacobs and Sami Callihan feel they still have a lot to prove in AAW and the relaxed rules in the company allow for crazier matches than one would usually get from another wresting event.

“The Walking Weapon” Josh Alexander vs Ace Austin

Josh Alexander had Visa issues that prevented the Canadian from making it to AAW events the past year but now that he’s back, “The Walking Weapon” has promised to regain the AAW Heavyweight championship. Australia’s Adam Brooks lost last month to Alexander in his return match, Alexander said in a backstage promo that he didn’t realize what he had when he was the AAW Heavyweight champion in the past, this is the time for Ace Austin to bring his absolute best to the table. Ace Austin is the product of Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) and Ohio where Sami Callihan runs Rockstar Pro Wrestling. Impact Wrestling has truly helped Austin shine with more than his gimmick and earning big wins, even on PPV. Austin must stay away from the power but that will be far from easy, Alexander’s motivation is the difference maker here.
Prediction: Josh Alexander wins.

The Besties In The World (Davey Vega and Matt Fitchett) vs The Rascalz (Dezmond Xavier and Zachary Wentz)

Photo: AAW

Both tag teams are about as evenly matched and equally popular as it gets so it’s no surprise we get a rematch from AAW Take No Prisoners, The Rascalz replaced AAW tag team champions LAX due to Santana’s injury. Dezmond Xavier and Zachary Wentz won that match as The Besties complain about not having Scarlett Bordeaux ringside as their manager. The Rascalz certainly have more upside currently but both teams are former AAW tag team champions. The winner will certainly receive the next AAW tag team title shot, either Davey Vega and Matt Fitchett go on a winning streak realizing they have all they need without Scarlett or they go their separate ways.
Prediction: The Besties In The World win.

Mance Warner vs Eddie Kingston

Mance Warner has only been wrestling for three years but he’s so old-school that one wouldn’t think that, even Warner’s promos have a wrestling veteran flavor to them with a carefree attitude. Warner loves to brawl so it’s too perfect that he feuds with Jimmy Jacobs and now “The Mad King.” The WRSTLING faction has a masterful godfather leading the faction, Kingston has been in more wars that anyone in AAW Pro. The spinning backfist may not even be enough for the crazed Warner, expect to see lots of hardcore action and brawling on the floor in this bout. It will be like looking in a mirror when Kingston looks at Warner and can’t keep him down.
Prediction: Mance Warner wins.

AAW Heritage Championship: Jake Something (C) vs Jimmy Jacobs

Photo: AAW

Jake Something has been undefeated for one year in AAW, he finally cashed in on the ultimate bounty of his young career when he surprised MJF with a last-minute AAW Heritage title defense at AAW Take No Prisoners. Maxwell Jacob Friedman had already defended the title against Mance Warner. This is time for Jake Something to show that he has all the tools to become the future of the company, even ahead of WRSTLING stablemate, Curt Stallion. Jimmy Jacobs is so smart in the ring after wrestling since the early years of Ring Of Honor Wrestling (ROH) that he could outsmart Something out of the title. Jake Something will forever have it on his resume if he pins Jacobs and if he manages to do it in clean fashion, it would be all the more sweeter for the champion from Michigan with five years in the business.
Prediction: Jake Something retains the AAW Heritage championship at AAW Bad Times At The Blue Genie.

AAW Women’s Championship: Jessicka Havok (C) vs Priscilla Kelly

Photo: AAW

Jessicka Havok is the inaugural AAW women’s champion and regained that title at AAW Hell Hath No Fury in the main event against Kylie Rae. Havok is the powerhouse of the females division, not afraid to mix it up with the men either. Jimmy Jacobs defeated Havok at AAW Lucha City Limits in a rare inter-gender Dog Collar match. Priscilla Kelly has a big chance to have all the fans on the US Indies have eyes on her, and as a champion once again after becoming the inaugural SHINE Nova champion in 2017. Thunder Rosa failed in her home state of Texas, Kelly needs to fight as unorthodox as possible to unseat the champion. Both have a very unique look and ring style but it’s Havok’s fifteen years in wrestling that will turn the tide on the challenger with four years experience.
Prediction: Jessicka Havok to walk out of AAW Bad Times At The Blue Genie with the title.

AAW Heavyweight Championship: Sami Callihan (C) vs Darby Allin

Photo: AAW

The challenger is only 180 pounds and the ultimate underdog in every match, but it’s Allin’s resiliency that gives this match the true main event spot. The quiet charisma and daredevil antics scream potential but it’s about time that Darby Allin arrives as a top level performer and not just the wrestler that provides dangerous moments. Callihan is in the midst of his third reign as the AAW Heavyweight champion. Huge battles with The Lucha Bros and Brody King are in the past for “The Callihan Death Machine” but what could be next after narrowly escaping the challenge of David Starr?

Sami Callihan has previously gotten the police involved for throwing steel chairs at an AAW event but he’s grown into the anti-hero that everyone refuses to hate, like the companies own Frank Castle, The Punisher, come to life. Darby Allin will surely bring a sensational performance to the main event but his time as a Heavyweight champion may not be here just yet, as he has left EVOLVE Wrestling for All Elite Wrestling (AEW.)  AAW Bad Times at the Blue Genie will surely have a chaotic end.
Prediction: Sami Callihan retains the AAW Heavyweight championship.
