Back in March, El Mesias announced on Social Media that his time with AAA Worldwide had ended and that he now was going to wrestle independently. Problems with his character in AAA and the bad administration by Dorian Roldan made him want to work with companies like The Crash Lucha Libre and wXw in Germany.
Mesias will now wrestle in CMLL as Gilbert El Boricua. Legal threats about the use of El Mesias’ name in another company not named AAA, slowed the process of Mesias in CMLL and even in Puerto Rico – his home country.
The International Team
The International Team that will take on the CMLL Team will have four North Americans, two Japanese, one Canadian and one Puerto Rican.
The Ring of Honor Tag Team Champions The Briscoe and ROH star Flip Gordon will represent the United States. The last North American is an indie wrestler known as Dark Magic – he has wrestle for companies in Mexico like IWRG. David Finlay Jr. will represent Germany and Mexico’s favorite Japanese resident Okamura will represent the Asian country. Canada will be represented by New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Michael Elgin. Finally, Puerto Rico will have one of their best wrestlers in History, Gilbert el Boricua leading the International Team.

The Grand Prix in CMLL is a 16-man tournament, were the wrestlers representing the world and CMLL battle in a Torneo Cibernetico. Last year, Michael Elgin and Diamante Azul were the two finalist, the latter beating the Canadian and in the process, Team CMLL winning the Grand Prix 2017.
