John Cena’s time in WWE is ending. He has worked a very sparing schedule over the past few years and, in his latest appearance, he announced that next year will be his last in wrestling.
With how many stars, retire it is great that Cena can go out on his terms. There are no injuries or politics; it’s just Cena realizing he cannot do it at the level he once could.
What makes this retirement tour great is that we will still get to see Cena in engaging feuds, but against who? There are a ton of wrestlers on the roster who would be a great stop during the John Cena Retirement Tour.
Let’s take a look at some great options below.
CM Punk
When CM Punk made his return to WWE, this was a matchup that was on everyone’s mind. Punk and Cena produced wrestling gold anytime they stepped into the ring.
Their matches were phenomenal with the build to each being just as entertaining. Cena still has enough left in the tank to put together some magic with Punk.
It would be a big-time match that WWE would salivate over. It remains to be seen how they would get the two together but, with little time remaining, this is a match that they need to pull the trigger on.
Logan Paul
This would be a battle between two social media stars. Logan Paul has become a great wrestler during his time and has improved significantly on the stick.
He is the exact type of heel that Cena revels in facing. It would allow WWE to put some great television segments together with Cena cutting down the social media sensation.
A lot of the Cena Retirement Tour should be filled with first-time matchups, and this would be one of the marquee additions. Paul only shows up for the big events and this would be a perfect matchup to promote on an undercard of say WrestleMania or SummerSlam.
Bron Breakker
Cena’s last run is primarily about saying goodbye to one of the greatest. Knowing Cena, it will also be about giving back and giving younger stars a chance to shine.
One of the stars who would benefit the most would be one Bron Breakker. He is a wrestler on the rise.
Breakker has been on the receiving end of a big push on the main roster, and putting him against Cena would be a massive rub for the son of a Steiner. Playing opposite Cena would be a great experience for the young buck.
He would get big match experience and the chance to learn from one of the greats. It would also be a huge bump for him to get a win over the leader of Cenation.
Randy Orton
There may be no greater rival for Cena than one Randall Keith Orton. The amount of matches these men have been in together rivals any other pairing in WWE history.
They have competed for every title imaginable, in every gimmick match one can think of, and have brought the best out in each other. With only a short time of Cena being back, WWE needs to make this matchup a priority.
It would be a nice bookend on the careers of both men. They have meant so much to their era and having them square off one last time would be a welcome sight.
Ludwig Kaiser
Cena’s retirement tour is going to be about giving us intriguing matchups that we haven’t seen before. One that would be great that many won’t think about would be a program against one of the more underrated heels on the roster, Ludwig Kaiser.
Kaiser is the perfect type of heel for Cena. Everything about the man makes fans want to hate him, which would give Cena plenty of ammunition in promos.
Seeing Cena put Kaiser in his place would get some great pops and also help Kaiser to further develop his character. Plus, going over Kaiser wouldn’t hurt him as much as it would others.
Chad Gable
When Chad Gable is done with the Wyatt Sicks, WWE needs to put him against Cena. The programs would write themselves.
Gable has been fantastic since turning heel. Well, that’s not fair – he was great as a babyface as well.
He knows how to get reactions from the crowd and is one of the most gifted athletes WWE has to offer. Gable vs. Cena would be reminiscent of another beloved angle, Cena vs. Kurt Angle.
Gable has the wrestling acumen and promo chops to turn in some great work when placed across from Cena. It would give Cena a credible heel to go to war against and, let’s be honest, their matches would be fantastic.
Seth Rollins
Not all of Cena’s return feuds should be against new guys. It would be nice to see him rekindle some old rivalries, namely against Seth “Freakin” Rollins.
Cena was a huge stepping stone for Rollins when he first broke into the main event. He helped to make Rollins a legitimate threat and was a great foil for the ultra-heel Rollins.
They had great matches, and great promos and headlined some of the biggest shows on the WWE calendar. Rollins now has gained years of experience in the ring.
He is not the same performer that he was years ago and unlike any that Cena has faced before. Rollins is a more confident wrestler and one that can take down anyone.
It would be great to see them square off one more time.
Jacob Fatu
It is only a matter of time before Cena goes up against The Bloodline. He has a history with Solo Sikoa and was one of the men who prevented Roman Reigns from retaining at WrestleMania 40.
However, Sikoa might be past battling Cena. He has won clean and looks to be primed for a main event run.
That is why Jacob Fatu would be an ideal choice for Cena. Fatu has been the hidden gem of The Bloodline.
He has been booked strongly since debuting as the madman of the group. He is also more apt to embark on a singles run and a feud against Cena would be awesome.
The unhinged nature of Fatu would keep Cena on edge and put an overwhelming force against The Leader of Cenation. Seeing Cena in fear of the enforcer would be a great story and one to get Fatu over as a force to be reckoned with.
