WWE Friday Night SmackDown did not go the way The Rock and WWE wanted it to go. After a year of teasing a Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes II, WWE swerved us instead. How did that come to fruition, and why do we want Cody now more than ever?
We Want Cody!
SmackDown Cody Rhodes/Roman Reigns/The Rock Segment
After winning the Royal Rumble for the second time in his career, Rhodes pointed at Roman, who was in the crowd, and said he wanted him at ‘Mania. Fast forward to Raw, and Seth Rollins tries to persuade Rhodes to choose him instead.
Then, fast forward to SmackDown. Rhodes says he wants to take everything from Roman, but for that to happen, Roman has to face The Rock. Rock comes out and hugs and shakes Rhodes’s hand, although Rhodes did not seem too thrilled for The Rock to take his place, and the fans noticed.
Why Fans are Against The Rock now
The fans are tired of the same old thing. Years ago, The Rock did the same thing to CM Punk, who at the time seemed like the next face of WWE. The Rock came out after years of being in the ring and challenged Punk to a title without earning it and winning.
Now, The Rock is back again, and this time, it takes Cody Rhodes’s spot to challenge for the WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 40 against Roman Reigns.
It is not fair for someone who has not been wrestling for years to come back and take the match of someone who has earned it, especially someone who has never won the World Championship. The Rock seems selfish to put himself over someone who is considered to be the next face of WWE.
A Brief History of Cody Rhodes
Rhodes left the WWE in 2016, a year later after his father and hero, Dusty Rhodes, passed away in 2015. Rhodes bet on himself that he was a top draw and did some amazing things outside of WWE. He won a few World championships, joined The Bullet Club, one of the hottest factions outside the WWE, and started his own company in AEW. R
hodes transitioned himself from Dusty’s kid and Stardust into the American Nightmare.
At WrestleMania 38 in 2022, he returned to WWE by defeating Seth Rollins in the best match of the night. It’s been two years since his return, and Rhodes said he was going to finish his story.
That story is about being the first Rhodes to win a World Heavyweight Championship in WWE and winning the championship that his dad never got to hold. That means going for Roman’s championship. It does not mean winning the new World Heavyweight Championship from Seth Rollins.
Seth vs. Rhodes 4?
Don’t get me wrong, Rhodes winning any World championship in WWE would be incredible to see. However, the WWE has been building Rhodes vs Roman for some time now, especially after last year, where The Bloodline cost Rhodes the match at ‘Mania against Roman. Rhodes vs Rollins has the potential to be special, but Rhodes winning the championship from Reigns is what the fans want to see.
We Want Cody Rhodes, not Rock, not Roman.
The fans want Rhodes to be the main event on night two at ‘Mania by defeating Roman, not main eventing on night one. After everything Cody Rhodes has gone through, he deserves to win his first World Championship in the actual main event of night two, not night one.
We, as fans, are tired of seeing Roman as champion; he barely wrestles, and when he does, it is the same thing over and over again. He loses most of the match; Bloodline cheats, and Spear and Roman win. They want someone different, someone who deserves it like Cody Rhodes.
The fans spoke up. After The Rock showed up, #WeWantCody became the number one trending hashtag on Twitter. Even Logan Paul, Mark Henry, and Gabriel Iglesias have given Cody the nod on social media.
Everyone wants Rhodes to finish the story and win his first World Heavyweight Championship by dethroning Roman at WrestleMania. Cody Rhodes will be at Raw tonight, so let’s see if anything changes for the WrestleMania main event.
