Can Damian Priest Regain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship?

At SummerSlam this past August, Damian Priest and Gunther fought for the World Heavyweight Championship. It was a hard-fought battle, with Gunther coming out on top but not in the way you’d expect.

Priest’s former ally Finn Balor put Gunther’s leg on the rope, negating the pinfall and causing him to lose the championship via chokehold. Priest then fought the Judgment Day for months, culminating in a victory against Balor at Bad Blood.

After winning a fatal four-way match to become the number one contender to the WHC, he and Gunther will have a rematch at Survivor Series: WarGames on November 30.

Given his success since his title loss, it should be easy for him to regain the gold. But in professional wrestling, nothing is ever a given for many reasons.

Damian Priest’s Confidence is Through the Roof

On the November 11, 2024, episode of Monday Night RAW, Priest admitted to Gunther in his promo that when he stepped into the ring, he understood what everyone was talking about in regard to Gunther’s presence and accolades.

Gunther has been booked phenomenally across all of WWE, showing the whole world why he is championship material.

He also said that Balor was the only reason he didn’t have the title around his waist. Given how he disposed of Balor and the Judgment Day alongside Rhea Ripley, he is clearly ready to face Gunther and doesn’t view him as a threat.

Offering to fight him at that moment shows that he is well prepared for another battle with the Ring General.

Outside Interference Could Hurt Priest

One thing that is true about the Judgment Day is that they all stick together. When one member is at a disadvantage, there’s always someone willing to put their body on the line in defense of them. Another true thing is that you never know when someone is truly done with someone else.

Priest may have moved on from Judgment Day, but they might not be done with him, especially given the Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley storyline going on now. They know Priest won the fatal four-way last week, where Dominik Mysterio was one of the competitors.

It’s not unreasonable to think there could be interference in an attempt to make him fail to regain the title.

A Surprising Wild Card Could Change Things

It’s no secret that when Ludwig Kaiser loses a match, Gunther doesn’t take it lightly. He expects nothing short of perfection from his friend and Imperium ally. When Kaiser doesn’t perform, it angers him.

After interrupting the promo battle, Kaiser received a vicious stare, teasing tension between the two men. Losing to Priest later in the night no doubt made Gunther even angrier.

He now has to navigate a hungry competitor and a disappointing friend. This could work out to Priest’s advantage. If there is somehow no Judgment Day interference, but Kaiser distracts or angers Gunther, he could overpower the champion.

It’s too early to tell, but it’s looking to be a very unpredictable match.

How Tough Will Priest’s Battle Truly Be?

The only information about this match is that it’s for the World Heavyweight Championship at Survivor Series: WarGames.

After that, there are a few different ways this match could go. There could be no interference, some Judgment Day distractions, a mistake or turn from Kaiser or a combination of the latter two. Some of those benefit the Priest, and some hinder him.

There are many storylines woven into this battle, which makes it much anticipated for various reasons. Damian Priest could regain his World Heavyweight Championship, but it will take a hard-fought battle and some unpredictability for that to happen.
