Preview: PROGRESS Wrestling (10/27/24) – Chapter 172: Werewolves of London

A match graphic for PROGRESS Wrestling - Chapter 172: Werewolves of London

PROGRESS Wrestling returns to the Electric Ballroom in London this Sunday for a huge show featuring all the fallout from their September showing and 5 title matches!

This show also marks their debut on TrillerTV, a key development for the company and what looks to be a big step towards reaching a new and much bigger audience. The show will kick off at 3pm BST (10am ET/9am CT).

With that noted, it comes as little surprise that they have topped up the card with some big matchups, including Cara Noir vs. Kenta, Rhio vs. Lizzy Evo, and much more.

Rhio to Main Event With Key Title Defence After Historic Year-Long Reign as Women’s Champion

Rhio has just surpassed 365 days, a full calendar year, as PROGRESS Women’s Champion, even passing Toni Storm’s record title reign in length, and after a fantastic match against Emersyn Jayne at Chapter 171, she looks to extend this run even further.

However, after being attacked mercilessly after Lizzy Evo’s successful defence, this looks like a much more significant challenge than expected.

Evo has risen rapidly through the ranks, and with this match ranked big enough to warrant the main event spot, expect big things in this one.

She picked up a huge win against a returning Allie Katch at Chapter 171 and believes there’s no better time to take the title stating that “Rhio’s long reign makes it sweeter to be the one to end her era”.

Cara Noir Returns to the Spotlight Against KENTA for the DEFY World Championship in High-Stakes Showdown

In what is sure to be the most anticipated matchup of the night, Cara Noir makes only his second appearance in the ring since returning from a near career-ending injury that took him out for over a year. He defeated Yoshiki Inamura in a hard-hitting but mutually respectful affair.

This time may not be so friendly as Noir lines up against the legendary Kenta. Neither can afford a loss here, really, and it feels quick to put a world title on Noir, so it’s definitely an intriguing matchup that will be sure to draw the eyes of the wrestling world.

Man Like Dereiss Challenges Luke Jacobs for Men’s World Championship, Aiming to Spoil Champion’s Hometown Return

After a dominant win last time out against Eddie Dennis, another one of the five men who confronted Luke Jacobs after winning the title on All In weekend lay down his challenge.

This time, it’s Man Like Dereiss who will attempt to do what he couldn’t do 2 years ago and dethrone Jacobs and spoil a hometown return in waiting, set for next month in Manchester.

Eddie Dennis & Tate Mayfairs Team Up Amid Tension to Face Subculture in PROGRESS Debut

Tension between Eddie Dennis and Tate Mayfairs will no doubt continue to plague this match, with quite the disgruntlement building between the pair in the last few months.

They first had a mutual respect match, in which Dennis defeated Mayafirs to earn the #1 contender to Luke Jacobs’s world title.

Dennis cashed in this chip last month at Chapter 171, where he would compete in the main event, and it was a brutal matchup. So brutal that  Mayfairs came out in an attempt to save Dennis and hopefully help him actually pick up the win.

However, this backfired quickly, and eventually, the tides turned again, leading Mayfairs to controversially throw the towel in on behalf of his friend to protect him from any further, even career-impacting, damage.

Dennis responded frustratedly to his interjections and believed he could’ve fought through, but now they must figure out where they stand with each other as they compete side by side to take on Subculture.

Adding to the intrigue, Flash Morgan Webster of Subculture will make his first PROGRESS appearance in over five years. Subculture will be appearing for the first time in PROGRESS Wrestling as a team and will want to make a good first impression on the London crowd.

Plus: Smokin’ Aces Defend Tag Titles, Robbo Faces Simon Miller, Munny Teams with Martina, and a Star-Studded Four-Way Collides as Nina Samuels vs. Kanji is Postponed Due to Injury

Smokin’ Aces (c) vs The Experience – Tag Team Championships

After a slightly controversial win in their street fight against Sanity last month, courtesy of a Chuck Mambo mess up, Smokin’ Aces are champions again and face their first challengers in The Experience.

LA Taylor and Skye Smitson could make history and become the first all-women tag team to win the tag belts.

Robbo (c) vs Simon Miller – Proteus Championship

After another successful defence from Robbo against Connor Mills last month, Robbo was not short of a challenger coming knocking.

Simon Miller, after missing out on competing in Chapter 171 due to injury, is hungrier than ever for a shot at Robbo and a chance to pick up his first piece of gold in PROGRESS Wrestling.

Gene Munny & Session Moth Martina vs Sunshine Machine

After abandoning his ‘adopted son’ in Taishi Ozawa last month in Chapter 171, Gene Munny moved onto new horizons and tried to forget the embarrassing fumble that caused him to lose against Lykos Gym. Munny, still on a mission to take down the tag division, has reunited with a previous associate, Session Moth Martina.

Both have agreed they don’t like each other and aren’t on the same page, but they do have the same goal. Munny has promised Martina that she can trust him, but we’ll see about that one…Sunshine Machine has Sanity stuck on their minds after Chuck Mambo cost them their Tag Team titles at Chapter 171, so with distractions galore, which team will be able to assert its tag division dominance?

Ricky Knight Jnr vs Zozaya vs Connor Mills vs Mike D Vecchio

A selection of the hottest talents in the British wrestling scene collide here in an all-star 4-way, with all of them being feasible winners. Winning this could give the winner big leverage for a title shot in PROGRESS Wrestling should they want it, and with a dominant world champion wreaking havoc, could one of these guys be next in line should Jacobs take down Man Like Dereiss?

Nina Samuels Injury Keeps Kanji off the Card

It also made headlines in the British wrestling scene when it was learnt that Nina Samuels was injured, postponing her proposed match with Kanji at this event; their rivalry is still at boiling point after costing each other the DEFY Women’s Championship in a triple threat with Marina Shafir last month.
