WWE Bad Blood 2024 – Review (w/ Star Ratings)

A match graphic from WWE Bad Blood 2024 featuring Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns.

WWE Bad Blood 2024 is upon us. For twenty years, fans have been waiting for the PLE to make its way onto the WWE schedule, and their prayers have been answered.

With the advertised card ready to go it should be a fantastic night of wrestling. Blood feuds are coming to a head, a returning Tribal Chief and a Hell in a Cell match that should provide plenty of extreme violence for the Atlanta audience to revel in.

WWE has set the table for what should be one of the best nights of the year, but how good? Let’s review the matches below and see how the night plays out.

Drew McIntyre vs CM Punk (Hell in a Cell Match) – 5/5

Wow did not see this being the opener. McIntyre and Punk had the main event written all over it, but it is a great way to start the night off molten hot.

You could feel the hatred when both men made their way to the ring, and they wasted little time tearing into one another. They were out to hit home runs with every move, which was awesome. There was a ton of creativity with weapons during the match.

Using the table legs as a weapon is not something that we have seen a lot of before.

The psychology was on point throughout the match and both men did a great job of selling just how brutal this match was. We started to think that neither man would walk away the same after this match.

Great blade job by both men, especially McIntyre with the deep cut that kept coming back throughout.

This Bad Blood opener will stand the test of time and is right up there with the greatest Hell in a Cell matches in company history.

Nia Jax vs Bayley (WWE Women’s Championship Match) – 3.25/5

Nia and Bayley had tons of history, going into this match. They had built on years of issues to show some great chemistry.

This wasn’t anything new from either woman. Jax used her power to get over and Bayley relied on her quickness. It was a formula that they had played off before, but they did incorporate fresh sequences to make it a match worth watching.

The sunset flip powerbomb and even the attempted hurricanrana, by Jax, were great and added a little more flare to their championship match.

There were a few botches that didn’t help the match though. It looked like they had to run through a few spots to get them right, and that does take away from the overall quality.  The finish was so-so, and it took away from Bayley and Jax and made the match more about Stratton.

Still, Jax winning was the right call. She has been doing great work and deserves a longer run.

Damian Priest vs Finn Balor – (2.75/5)

Great promo package to hype up what has been an underwhelming build. Could just be this writer, but their issues always seemed secondary to the Morgan, Mysterio, and Ripley issues.

This was a good match. Priest and Balor are world-class athletes, and the action was serviceable, but there wasn’t much that stood out. The Razor’s Edge on the apron was a cool spot but there wasn’t much outside of that.

The Judgement Day getting involved could be seen coming from a mile away and didn’t help the finish. This was a good television match, not one that should have been blowing off the issues between Finn Balor. At least Priest winning means that both men should be moving on to other things.

Liv Morgan vs Rhea Ripley (Women’s World Championship Match) – 3.25/5

The Dominik being locked in a shark cage stipulation was one that worked for this match. Dominik has the type of heat that wrestlers only dream of, and his reaction to the shark cage was a perfect way to sell his and Morgan’s desperation to start the match.

Having Ripley’s knee be the focal point of Morgan makes sense. She wouldn’t have much of a chance against the larger Ripley any other way. It was a great job of selling for Ripley and putting Morgan over as an opportunist.

The crowd wasn’t into the match as much as they should have been. This was a great wrestling match all around. Morgan has improved exponentially, and Ripley is one of the best WWE has to offer. The back and forth was fantastic and both characters played well off each other.

Everything was going great until the train went off the tracks. Dominik tumbling out of the cage was hilarious and provided some kendo stick relief, but Rodriguez botched the shock.

It looked like Morgan was supposed to win outright, instead of getting the DQ. Still, this was entertaining and will continue for a while longer.

Cody Rhodes & Roman Reigns vs Solo Sikoa & Jacob Fatu – (3.5/5)

Great entrances to start the main event. It is amazing to see Reigns finally get the positive reaction that McMahon tried for years to get. The unlikely partnership angle was played well and hyped up by a Michael Cole adlib about Dusty Rhodes. It was something small but a great way to plant the seed.

The beginning of the match was your paint-by-numbers tag match. Cody played the face in peril until Roman got the hot tag. The crowd was into it the entire way and it helped to bridge the action until the match devolved into chaos.

The table spot from Rhodes was great and there were some wonderful near falls. There was a time when it truly looked like Sikoa and Fatu were going to get the victory. That is until Jimmy Uso made his long-awaited return.

It was a shock that not a single person could have said they saw coming. A great ending that was capped off by The Rock making his return. It will be interesting to see where this goes, but a War Games showdown could be on the horizon.
