Why Oba Femi is Tony D’Angelo’s Biggest Challenge Yet

A WWE NXT match graphic featuring Oba Femi and Tony D'Angelo.

On WWE NXT’s broadcast debut on The CW on October 1, 2024, Tony D’Angelo and Oba Femi went face to face on Miz TV ahead of their bout for the NXT North American Championship the next week.

It was bound to be a tense discussion, given the match and their feelings towards one another. However, the heat got turned up to 100 from the beginning.

The very first remark coming from The Miz’s mouth was that D’Angelo was scared of Femi. D’Angelo responded by saying he used his fear as motivation. However, that fear is justified given the circumstances surrounding the match and D’Angelo’s actions from previous weeks.

Oba Femi Isn’t Someone to Take Lightly

Since his debut on NXT last year, Femi has been nothing short of dominant. He has dismantled opponents with ease, showcasing his strong abilities and wrestling knowledge. There’s a reason why he has quickly risen up the ranks so quickly.

Since cashing in his NXT Breakout Tournament contract and winning the North American Championship from Dragon Lee, he has gone through numerous challengers without trouble.

He even beat D’Angelo at No Mercy on September 1. He knows how to beat D’Angelo since he already did it once. It’s clear he thinks he can do it again.

Tony D’Angelo Realizes He Isn’t Invincible

If there’s someone who is brave walking around NXT, it’s Tony D’Angelo. After all, he has a tight knit family that always has his back. But during his match with Alex Hammerstone, happening after Hammerstone couldn’t dispose of Femi himself, something changed.

He realized that he couldn’t win, so he walked away and accepted the count out.

After facing someone obviously bigger than him, that brave spirit has faded. He knew that he wasn’t the big dog in the ring at the time. Going up against a behemoth in Femi has him scared.

He knows that he needs a gigantic effort to beat Femi and win the North American Championship.

Does Tony Have a Chance Against Oba?

To win the North American Championship, Tony has to do what he told the Allstate Arena crowd. He needs to use the fear as motivation to win. As he progresses in his career, there’s going to be even bigger challengers than Femi standing across the ring from him.

If he can take down Femi, his confidence will be restored. Then he’ll know that he can go toe to toe with anyone. The key to winning is believing that he can beat the bigger man. We’ll see next week if he believes that himself.
