Mark your calendars for September 25, 2024, as this is the day when the world will finally get an unprecedented glimpse into the enigmatic life and strategies of the former WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon, as the documentary arrives on Netflix.
The documentary follows McMahon’s rise and fall, covering the good, bad, dirty, and everything in between.
If it weren’t for the recent allegations against Vince McMahon, he would probably still be running the WWE. There is no denying from anyone that he didn’t bleed professional wrestling. He has led the company for 40 years, making it undeniably the top pro wrestling promotion in history.
The six-part docuseries, Mr. McMahon, will show what this man was truly capable of, from how he created the largest wrestling company in the world to how he lost it instantly.
Mr. McMahon
Chris Smith, the director of Tiger King is also the director of the Mr. McMahon docuseries, while producing with Bill Simmons. They started this documentary not knowing what it was going to turn into.
The docuseries started being filmed in 2020 to discover how he made professional wrestling into what it came to be. Over 200 hours of interviews were conducted with McMahon (before his resignation), family members, and colleagues.
As the series was being created, sexual misconduct allegations came out regarding multiple people in the company. However, it was Vince McMahon who was behind everything.
Director Chris Smith told Netflix,
“Over the four years of production, the story evolved in truly shocking ways, culminating in some extremely harrowing allegations. The final product is a revealing documentary that we believe offers a rich and nuanced portrait of the man and the complex legacy he left behind.”
Before this came to light, McMahon had a reputation for being difficult to work with and controlling. Few on-screen segments show his true character to the audience, let alone what happens off-screen.
It will be horrific to hear some of the information revealed in this series, which will touch on all aspects of Vince McMahon.
Moving to Netflix
Only a few months after the Mr.McMahon series is released on Netflix, some WWE programming will also be transitioning to Netflix.
WWE will kick off 2025 by bringing Monday Night Raw to Netflix to start the New Year off strong. The show will remain live-streamed despite Netflix not having your average live programming.
Seeing the ratings as Monday Night Raw moves off of national television will be interesting. But with this being only a few months after the Mr. McMahon series, will this affect drawing in new fans?
WWE Raw is getting in the ring with Netflix!
Starting in January 2025, Netflix will exclusively stream WWE Raw in the US, Canada, UK, & Latin America. Every single week, all year long. https://t.co/4hiJ2bBpQG pic.twitter.com/i7lz1k80YL

Is All Publicity Good Publicity?
There is such a thing as bad publicity; someone must do something bad enough. Vince McMahon did.
He, along with John Lauranitis, whom the WWE fans are also familiar with, are being sued by former WWE employee Janet Grant for alleged sex trafficking, physical and emotional abuse, sexual assault, and negligence in the suit.
Unfortunately, this is terrible publicity for Vince McMahon and shows his true character. But depending on how the series closes, it may not be bad for WWE.
Following McMahon’s forced departure, Nick Khan became CEO, and Triple H became the Chief Content Officer. From a viewer’s standpoint, the show changed for the better. There are less ridiculous storylines and filler matches while giving new talent more opportunities. Currently, without Vince McMahon, WWE is doing great.
I’m sure the series will mention that McMahon is no longer in the WWE. But if this is highlighted as a central point, this series will be a good way for WWE to cut ties with Vince McMahon officially.
However, if it isn’t made a significant point in the series that McMahon is no longer involved in the company, this may prevent WWE from getting new viewers.
Transferring Monday Night Raw to Netflix is an excellent way to introduce the show to new audience members. Although Mr. McMahon will be out months before WWE moves to the new platform, regardless of the portrayal, people will have enough time to form their opinions on McMahon and the WWE.
All that’s left to do is grab your popcorn and watch the rise and fall of Vince McMahon in this documentary.
