WWE Announce The Return of Saturday Night’s Main Event

On September 17th, 2024, WWE confirmed the return of the iconic Saturday Night’s Main Event. First reported by Joe Otterson of Variety, the historic special will take place on December 14th, 2024. The slot for this event fills the usual void between WWE Survivor Series and WWE Royal Rumble.

“WWE and NBC announce the return of the iconic Saturday Night’s Main Event, which will air live on Saturday, December 14 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and simulcast on Peacock. The special will be held at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Long Island, N.Y., the site of the first-ever Saturday Night’s Main Event.”

WWE have seemingly confirmed that this special will be the first in a series of specials, simulcast on NBC and Peacock, over the next few years.

“This marks the first primetime special, which will air quarterly on NBC and Peacock, as part of WWE’s new, five-year domestic media rights partnership with NBCUniversal.”

The event, of course, is an homage to the classic primetime special of the same name, which first aired in May 1985. The debut episode of Saturday Night’s Main Event saw Hulk Hogan defend the WWF Championship, so expect to see the Undisputed WWE Championship put on the line on December 14th.

The original run of Saturday Night’s Main Event spanned just under 30 episodes, between 1985 and 1991. WWE attempted a revival of the event in 2006, but there were only five episodes between 2006 and 2008.

Despite that, WWE used the same name for many of their house shows throughout 2022 and 2023. The decision to bring the event back as a televised show is clearly not a snap call, but a methodically thought-out one.

Tickets for the event will go on sale on September 20th, 2024 at 10 a.m. ET, via Ticketmaster. Pre-sale for the event begins the day before, on September 19th.
