Who is 'Ricky from Seattle'? A Closer Look at Kevin Owens' Temporary Teammate

WWE SmackDown’s season premiere on the USA Network saw a huge surprise appearance. Of course, it was none other than… Ricky.

Kevin Owens’ short-lived allyship with ‘Ricky from Seattle’ was a means to an end for the arrival of Randy Orton, and was never meant to be anything more significant. However, it’s fair to say that Ricky maximised his minutes on WWE programming.

Who is Ricky?

Despite having a surge in popularity after his WWE SmackDown appearance, Ricky, who goes by the moniker of Ricky Gibson on the independent scene, has had a great career in his own right. He has been in the tag team Midnight Heat alongside Eddie Pearl since 2018, with the duo picking up 14 Tag Team Championship victories in their six years together.

In that time, the pair have earned wins over some of the industry’s best. Gibson and Pearl have beaten the likes of Breeze & Dirty Dango, the WorkhorseMen, Christopher Daniels and the former AEW World Champion, Swerve Strickland, just to name a few of their fallen foes.

Rockin’ Ricky has also been featured on ROH, NJPW and episodes of AEW: Dark throughout his career. However, the majority of his matches have come under the Prestige Wrestling banner.

The promotion, based in Portland, Oregon, has played host to many superb matches in its seven-year history.

Gibson has a huge clash ahead of him at Prestige Roseland 9 on September 29th, 2024, as he and Pearl are due to take on former AEW Tag Team Champions, FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler). If there is just one main lesson to take away from this story, it’s this: never accept an invitation to tag with Kevin Owens.
