Preview: WWE SmackDown (9/20/24) – LA Knight Defends the U.S. Title

A match graphic for WWE SmackDown on the USA Network featuring United States Champion LA Knight and his challenger WWE Speed Champion Andrade.

The USA Network debut of WWE SmackDown was one for the record books. It featured countless unforgettable moments, including the return of Roman Reigns and the “OTC” forming an “unholy alliance” with his arch nemesis Cody Rhodes.

Friday’s show, as it’s shaping up to be, seems to be another installment of the Blue brand that fans will certainly want to tune into. With all that said, let’s get right into it.

Here’s a preview of this week’s WWE Friday Night SmackDown. Let’s run it down.

Announced for WWE SmackDown:

  • Bayley & Naomi vs. Nia Jax & Tiffany Stratton
  • United States Championship Match: LA Knight (c) vs. Andrade
  • Dumpster Match: Chelsea Green vs. Michin

Go Win or Go Home

The tag team match between Nia Jax and Tiffany Stratton versus Bayley and Naomi will have high stakes and rewards. On last week’s WWE SmackDown, Jax addressed the WWE Universe, effectively reminding them how dominant she has been over the past year.

Apart from that, WWE Women’s Championship announced that SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis has informed her that she will be defending her crown at October’s WWE Bad Blood live in Atlanta, Georgia.

Jax said that she doesn’t care anymore who she faces because it will be an absolute massacre anyway.

Not long after those sentiments, Bayley and Naomi would come out to put their hats in as the rightful challengers for Bad Blood. Nia had other plans. She has no problem with either but they want her to earn it and put something big on the line.

In this tag team bout, if Bayley and Naomi win, whoever picks up the fall for their team will advance to the PLE to challenge for the title.

However, if Jax and her partner Ms. Money in the Bank Tiffany Stratton come out on top, whoever eats the fall or submission will have no choice but to leave WWE SmackDown.

This was already a big match to begin. But now, it’s even more “can’t miss” with all the conditions in place.

Will Bayley or Naomi book their ticket to Atlanta? Or will Jax and Stratton crush those dreams?

A Mega Collision

For a good while now, Andrade and Carmelo Hayes have been battering each other in a series of matches to cement themselves as the rightful challengers for the United States Championship held by LA Knight.

Last week’s episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown settled the debate once and for all. With two wins apiece, Andrade ended the series by defeating Hayes in their fifth and final encounter. It was fast and furious and left no doubt about who should challenge Knight next.

After that win, Knight would come out and make it explicitly clear to everyone in the arena and Andrade that the title is going nowhere anytime soon. However, if the WWE Speed Champion wants to be a double titleholder, by all means, it will certainly not be easy.

It’s LA Knight against Andrade for the United States Championship; who will be the USA Network’s flag bearer at the end of the night?
