Bron Breakker: Next Challengers for the WWE Intercontinental Title

A photo of WWE Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker on WWE Monday Night Raw.

Bron Breakker has started on his path to glory. After besting Sami Zayn, there has been a laundry list of wrestlers lining up for the WWE Intercontinental Championship to get their shot at the mid-card championship. Breakker appears ready to take on anyone who continues to build his legacy.

On Raw, it was announced that a tournament would begin to determine who would be the next man to step up to Breakker, but who should get the nod? A few worthy candidates would provide a great challenge to the new champion. Let’s look at those new candidates below.

Potential Challengers for Bron Breakker and the WWE Intercontinental Championship

Jey Uso

Jey has been spinning his wheels since WrestleMania. He had a marquee match with his brother but has been directionless. There hasn’t been much for him to sink his teeth into, and WWE could run the risk of the fans losing faith in the Uce.

Having him win the IC contender tournament would be a great way to give him something of substance to work with. He and Breakker don’t have a lot of history, and it would provide a fresh matchup for the IC Champ.

The clash of styles would make for some darn entertaining matches and give Breakker a good win post-Sami Zayn.

Sheamus

Sheamus has been a steady hand for over a decade now. He has won every major championship that WWE has to offer save one, the Intercontinental Championship.

The Celtic Warrior has had plenty of chances to win the strap and most of those matches have been fantastic, specifically his triple threat with Gunther and Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 39.

He has moved into a different stage of his career and doesn’t pose much of a threat to the title, but that shouldn’t deter WWE from giving him another shot. His lack of IC Championship reign would be a great story to build toward his showdown with Breakker.

Also, who wouldn’t want to see these two hosses beat the snot out of each other?

Rey Mysterio

Mysterio has done all there is to do in WWE. His accolades rival any greats of any era, and he still has a lot left in the tank. At 41 years of age, he is in incredible shape and is still one of the speedier guys on the roster.

That being said his role has changed to more of a veteran used to get guys over, which would make him a great candidate for Breakker.

Rey is the perfect underdog. He is a tiny guy who always seems to defy the odds. It would be great to see him go over in the tournament and defy the odds again. He would also be a great matchup for Breakker.

The size discrepancy would allow Breakker to pull off some jaw-dropping feats of strength, and his eventual win would give him another trophy to put in the case.

Dominik Mysterio

Dominik has been the best heel on the roster for a couple of years now. He has the type of go-away heat that most wrestlers would dream of having. On top of that, he has become fantastic in the ring and deserves to show that off more.

What better way to accomplish this than cutting his way through wrestlers on the way to winning the tournament?

Dom will be tied up with Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley for a while. That said, why not have him tangle with Bron to give the feud a slight reprieve? It will need some time to fester and Mysterio going up against Breakker will be a highlight of any show that it is a part of.

Damian Priest

Priest’s run as WWE World Heavyweight Champion wasn’t the greatest. Only near the end was WWE booking him well, but that did give him momentum following his loss.

His program with Finn Balor will continue but it would be great to see him get this win. He hasn’t gone after the IC Championship before and the power vs power game between him and Bron Breakker would make for a great match.

There would be little chance for Priest to go over Breakker, but their match could achieve two things. One, it would give Bron Breakker a great opponent and a huge win when he emerges victorious.

Two, when Finn Balor cost’s Priest the match it would add another layer of intensity to their eventual blowoff.
