Preview: WWE SmackDown (8/23/24) – LA Knight’s First U.S. Title Defense

A match graphic for WWE SmackDown featuring United States Champion LA Knight and Santos Escobar.

This week’s WWE SmackDown brings us one step closer to Bash in Berlin next Saturday night. It will be a night full of memorable moments and spectacular matches in Germany. However, the latest iteration of WWE Friday Night SmackDown will be no slouch either.

A huge 6-Woman Tag Team Match. Plus, two titles will be up for grabs. If that’s not going to hook the WWE Universe into tuning in this week, we don’t know what will. With all that out of the way, let’s preview the Blue brand’s newest episode. Let’s run it down.

Announced for WWE SmackDown:

  • WWE Tag Team Championship Match: The Bloodline (c) vs. The Street Profits
  • 6-Woman Tag Team Match: Naomi, Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill vs. Alba Fyre, Isla Dawn & Blair Davenport
  • United States Championship Match: LA Knight (c) vs. Santos Escobar

The Hunter Becomes Prey

For a long time, LA Knight has chased his first taste of WWE gold. At SummerSlam, he permanently etched his name in the record books after defeating Logan Paul for the United States Championship. Without a doubt, this is one of Knight’s crowning achievements. Unfortunately, there’s very little time to celebrate.

A man who’s had his eyes on the U.S. Championship as well has come out to lay down the gauntlet. Santos Escobar, leader of Legado Del Fantasma, has been scratching and clawing for the better part of a year now, trying to get his hands on the Red, White, and Blue crown. This time, he’s wasting no time.

Escobar wants what Knight has and will do everything in his power to cut the party short and hoist up the gold once and for all. That said, LA Knight will not go down without a fight. If the “Megastar” has anything to say about it, he’ll be the title’s ‘forever holder’ even if they have to pry it him from his cold, lifeless hands.

Will Santos finally capture the title that has eluded him, or will Knight notch his first successful title defense?

Bloodshed

The Street Profits have booked their ticket to this week’s WWE SmackDown and will challenge for the WWE Tag Team Championship, held by the duo of Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga of The BloodlineAngelo Dawkins and Montez Ford earned this opportunity by defeating the former champs #DIY in a PLE-caliber match.

The matchup between The Bloodline and the Profits will be one heck of a war come Friday night fight night. As the WWE Universe will remember, Fatu and Tama defeated ‘Tez and Dawkins last in a gauntlet match to earn a shot at the then-champions Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa, eventually leading to The Bloodline claiming the title for themselves.

There’s a ton of history and hatred here. So, expect nothing less but an absolute battle between these two teams. It’s The Bloodlines versus The Street Profits for the WWE Tag Team Championship!

It all goes down this Friday night, which you can catch only on Fox!
