A lot will happen on this week’s WWE SmackDown. Coming off the heels of a spectacular SummerSlam, we’re already on the road to Bash in Berlin on the final day of August with two championship matches featuring SmackDown superstar Randy Orton vs. WWE Monday Night Raw champion Gunther for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Plus, the Blue brand’s head honcho, Cody Rhodes, will defend his Undisputed WWE Championship against a man celebrating his 10th WWE anniversary, Kevin Owens. But before that, this week’s Friday night fight night promises to bring the action and thrills ahead of the big PLE in Germany.
Let’s get the ball rolling and preview this week’s edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown. Let’s run it down.
Announced Card for WWE SmackDown:
- Nia Jax WWE Women’s Championship Celebration (Hosted by Tiffany Stratton)
- Naomi vs. Blair Davenport
- Grayson Waller vs. Kevin Owens
Glow Up
Blair Davenport is a fairly new addition to the WWE SmackDown roster. However, she’s already ruffled the wrong feathers. Davenport did the unthinkable and put a beatdown on Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair, with the help of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Unholy Union, after Cargill’s win against Alba Fyre, for the second week in a row.
Luckily for Bianca and Jade, Naomi, their WrestleMania XL partner was their to even the numbers. It seems like a war is brewing between these two groups and it will officially start this week as Naomi takes on Davenport. Who will get the first shot in for their respective sides?
A Prized Champion?
Time and again, Kevin Owens, along with Randy Orton, has stood by the side of Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes in his battles with The Bloodline. On last week’s SmackDown, like clockwork, Solo Sikoa and his faction once again surrounded Rhodes like a pack of wolves, and Owens once again made the save.
Cody has recognized that through thick and thin, Owens will always be there to fight alongside him. So, it’s no surprise that Rhodes has granted his friend a shot at the main event and immortality once more as he named Kevin the number one contender for his championship at Bash in Berlin.
While friends, this is a match the WWE Universe has wanted for a long time. Regardless of their kinship, Owens and Rhodes will stop at absolutely nothing to claim the gold for themselves. Friends, not foes. However, there will only be one standing tall with the title in hand once the PLE in Germany ends.
For this week, Owens has a hell of a tune-up match as he faces off against former WWE Tag Team Champion Grayson Waller. The ‘Aussie Icon’ has a lot to prove, especially after losing his coveted tag team title. It’s certainly a heck of a way to make a statement if he can manage to outfight the number one contender.
It’s Waller versus Owens! Friday night! Be there! Watch it all unfold only on Fox!
