This Saturday night is finally the biggest party of the summer. WWE SummerSlam 2024 will take place on Saturday, August 3rd at the Cleveland Browns stadium in Ohio.
It was just announced that the official host of SummerSlam 2024 will be Ohio’s own, The Miz. With not having a scheduled match, Miz will still be able to be involved in the show in his home state.
He will present the stacked card on the show and ensure the premium live event goes smoothly. Many storylines at SummerSlam are nearing their peak, creating many possibilities for new outcomes.
At such significant premium live events, WWE always seems to satisfy. Let’s look at five must-see moments coming this weekend at SummerSlam 2024.
5. Jelly Roll and Other Guests Pop Out At SummerSlam
I’ve previously discussed the possibility of Jelly Roll and other celebrities appearing at SummerSlam 2024, but why should you wait to see these guests? Jelly Roll is arguably one of the hottest country artists right now.
Two of his songs are set as the theme song of SummerSlam 2024. After discussing on X with Triple H, it seems promising that Jelly Roll will appear and perform a few of his songs.
Having the premium live event at the Cleveland Browns stadium also means seeing some of the Cleveland Browns players. Anytime football players appear, they often participate in the action due to their athleticism and the taunts of superstars.
It will be interesting to see how or if any Cleveland Browns players will get involved. With The Miz hosting SummerSlam 2024, will he be physically involved with any of the celebrity guests?
He’s known to run his mouth, but he is also a face now, so will it be someone else?
4. Decision of ‘Dirty’ Dominik Mysterio
While Dominik Mysterio recently broke Liv Morgan’s heart, there is almost no doubt he will involve himself in the Women’s Championship match between Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley. It would be hard to imagine him not interfering in the match, considering his large role in their storyline.
Many speculate that this weekend will be the fall between Ripley and Mysterio. Especially because, over the past few weeks, cracks have been forming in The Judgement Day.
Will SummerSlam be the beginning of the fall of The Judgement Day? If Mysterio gets involved and helps Morgan win – intentionally or unintentionally – many issues will arise within The Judgement Day.
This may turn into the end of The Judgement Day. No matter the outcome of this match, we will finally get to see Mysterio’s true colors in whomever he decides to help win.
Either havoc will rise in The Judgement Day, or Liv Morgan will raise havoc trying to finish her revenge tour. Either way, I can’t imagine this will be the last time we see Ripley and Morgan in the ring together.
3. WWE United States Championship
This weekend, Logan Paul will defend the United States Championship against LA Knight in a storyline that has become very personal. The feud was even taken to outside of the ring when LA Knight appeared at Paul’s house in his pool.
They have been exchanging shots every week leading up to this coming weekend, with Paul criticizing the last 20 years of Knight’s career and Knight saying that Paul is nothing more than a social media star. Knight needs this win to show he can still have a successful wrestling career.
He already has the crowd on his side but has yet to be given many championship opportunities. The only championship that Knight has won was in NXT when they brought back the Million Dollar Championship, which isn’t an active title anymore.
For WWE to use LA Knight as more than just a midcard competitor, he must win a championship soon. While he has been given television time, he has been coasting from week to week.
The fans know he can fulfill the champion role as they all have his back; it’s just a matter of when he is given the opportunity. Is now Knight’s time?
Considering how Paul cheats to win, will he have anything up his sleeve for this weekend’s battle? Will Knight be able to overcome the odds against him?
Paul already has the champion’s advantage in the match, and he will also have the home-field advantage.
2. Ref “Freakin” Rollins
One of the most anticipated matches of SummerSlam 2024 is CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre. The feud between these two has become incredibly personal.
With each other mentioning the negative parts of one another’s wrestling career and bringing up family members, they have expressed their apparent hatred for each other. The feud began back when McIntyre injured Punk at the Royal Rumble 2024 and, since then, Punk has cost McIntyre numerous championship opportunities.
Their rivalry was brewing even while Punk was out with his torn tricep. The match between these two this weekend will be intense.
These two are phenomenal, experienced wrestlers who have built up a story and anticipation for months for this match. However, the catch is that Seth Rollins will be the special guest referee for this match.
Rollins has quite a history with both men, making the fact that he will be the referee very intriguing. As I discussed in a previous article, the original plan for WrestleMania 40 was Punk vs. Rollins before Punk tore his tricep.
Before his injury, we saw the beginning of a feud between Rollins and Punk. Rollins has expressed his frustration with Punk’s return and doesn’t hide his dislike for McIntyre either.
After the WrestleMania match with Punk fell through, Rollins ended up defending his title against McIntyre. McIntyre was the new World Heavyweight Champion until Punk beat him down, letting Damien Priest successfully cash in the Money in the Bank briefcase.
The history and hatred between all three men are severe. Although Rollins can make any call he wants because he decides the rules for this match.
On the July 29 edition of Raw, Rollins said to McIntyre,
“If there is anybody that hates CM Punk as much as you, it’s me. The thing you’re overlooking, however, is that if there is anybody that hates you as much as CM Punk, it’s also me.”
Rollins also said that this Saturday’s match will be a “violent masterpiece,” which is hard for anyone to disagree with. All three men are in separate stories from one another, but they will all be in the ring together this weekend.
Even though he said he has no biases, will Rollins somehow interfere?
1. Solo Sikoa and The Bloodline
The main event of SummerSlam 2024 will be Cody Rhodes defending his Undisputed WWE Championship against Solo Sikoa. Many rumors have been spreading about possible returns in this match, considering this story seems much more significant than Rhodes and Sikoa.
The match between these two superstars is about more than the WWE Championship; it is about The Bloodline. There is pressure on Sikoa to beat Rhodes and enlist his spot as The Tribal Chief.
However, there is also pressure on Rhodes because the last time he stepped in the ring with Sikoa, the new Bloodline leader pinned him, which gave The Bloodline (Sikoa, Tama Tonga, and Jacob Fatu) the victory over Rhodes, Randy Orton, and Kevin Owens at Money in the Bank 2024.
Among all of this, Sikoa has been challenging Roman Reigns for his Tribal Chief status. With tensions rising every week and Sikoa making the feud more personal, fans are waiting for Reigns’s return.
Will Reigns finally make his return at SummerSlam 2024? Jimmy Uso has also been injured since Sikoa kicked him out of The Bloodline on the April 12 episode of SmackDown.
While he hasn’t returned, we know he will not forget what Sikoa did to him. With this match being the most crucial of Sikoa’s career, it may incite the return of both Reigns and Uso.
Rhodes needs someone on his side, or it will end up being a four-on-one battle for the WWE Championship. Will Rhodes have Reigns and the Usos by his side, or will we get a new Undisputed WWE Champion?
