Who is ‘The Glamour’ Mariah May?

Who is 'The Glamour' Mariah May?

Since her debut in November 2023, Mariah May has risen to the top of the AEW women’s division alongside former mentor, Toni Storm. Her charisma and in-ring abilities won the crowd over through her stories with Storm.

All this leads her to the current moment in her career where she will challenge Storm for the AEW Women’s Championship at All In. Now that May is separated from Storm, who is Mariah May?

The AEW audience only knows her as a “fan” of Toni Storm. However, she had an impressive career prior to her debut in AEW.

Let’s take a look at May’s career and what has led her to where she is today.

Who is Mariah May?

Mariah May is a women’s wrestler from England. However, she became widely popular while wrestling at STARDOM in Japan.

Before her time in Japan, May wrestled for various independent promotions. She made her professional wrestling debut in 2019, working with companies such as Progress Wrestling, Revolution Pro Wrestling, and more.

It wasn’t until the beginning of 2023 that May made her debut with STARDOM Wrestling. May aligned herself with Mina Shirakawa and Xia Brookside, forming the faction Club Venus.

May and Shirakawa would unite separately and tag team under the name Rose Gold.

In her career on the independent scene, May has won numerous championships, including the United Wrestling Championship, the SMW Women’s Championship, the Goddess of Stardom Championships (with Mina Shirakawa), and more.

May has won over the wrestling audience through her high energy and charisma. She can adapt to any character needed, heel or face.

If she didn’t win everyone over, I’m sure she gained their respect through her determination and continued to show up every week. 2023 was a packed year for May as she wrestled nearly every week, sometimes multiple times a week.

Towards the end of 2023, May was signed to AEW.

The Mentorship of Toni Storm

Mariah May made her first on-screen appearance in AEW on the November 8, 2023 episode of Dynamite. From that day, she was introduced as a fan of Toni Storm.

The story between these two was and is arguably one of the most entertaining and interesting stories currently happening in AEW. May was taken in under Storm’s wing and began to follow in her footsteps, dressing in her old gear and using her wrestling moves.

The relationship between May and Storm wasn’t hindered until the appearance of May’s former tag team partner, Shirakawa. This made everyone question what side May would choose.

Ultimately, she didn’t have to choose because they all made amends after the match between Storm and Shirakawa. With Storm’s mentorship going on for months, many couldn’t help but speculate when they would separate, especially after the story with Shirakawa.

Tensions rose during May’s time in the Owen Hart Tournament, knowing the winner would face Storm for her AEW Women’s Championship at All In. Despite this concern, Storm stood by May’s side to the tournament finals, encouraging her along the way and celebrating May’s win of the whole tournament.

That was until May decided that she had enough of Storm’s mentorship.

‘The Glamour’ Mariah May

After winning the Owen Hart Tournament, May shocked everyone with her vicious turn on Storm. Beating Storm with the Owen Hart Women’s Title and a high heel, she left her bloody and beaten on the top of the ramp.

The tensions between them are higher than ever, as both women are filled with rage.

On the July 24 edition of Dynamite, we saw the long-awaited in-ring debut of ‘The Glamour’ Mariah May. Prior to this match, we had only seen her competing as Storm; now, we get to see who Mariah May truly is.

She carried her Owen Cup Title and the shoe used to beat Storm to her match. May defeated local competitor, Kaitlyn Alexis, before Storm returned.

Storm dressed as a camera operator before jumping in the ring and battling with May.

The two’s relationship building for months made the fans so invested in their feud now. The duo drew attention weekly through their promos and their unique dynamic.

Now, they will face each other for the AEW Women’s Championship on August 25 at All In in London, the hometown of both women. Emotions will be high between the two, but they will most definitely have a phenomenal match.

Will May have the upper hand on Storm after studying her for nine months? Will Mariah May be the one to end the reign of ‘Timeless’ Toni Storm?
