Why People Love to Hate Dominik Mysterio

In professional wrestling, where faces and heels are critical to storytelling, Dominik Mysterio found his spot as one of the company’s top heels.

Dominik Mysterio has been one of the most hated wrestlers in the company for the past two years. ‘Boo’s’ flood the arena anytime he appears, let alone when there is a microphone in his hand. This tremendous amount of hatred from the audience is due to Mysterio’s ignorance towards everyone but The Judgement Day.

Let’s look at Dominik Mysterio’s career and how he went from fighting alongside his father, Rey Mysterio, to fighting against him and becoming one of the most hated individuals in WWE.

Becoming “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio

It wasn’t until Clash at the Castle 2022 that something snapped in Dominik Mysterio. After Rey Mysterio and Edge defeated Finn Balor and Damien Priest, Dominik turned on Edge and his father, officially joining The Judgement Day.

Edge and Rey Mysterio are beloved legends in the company, making this turn very significant. Rey and Edge have nearly been over with the audience for the past 20 years, and they are two of the most prominent faces in the company. For Dominik to have his first heel feud against Rey Mysterio and Edge, it was easy for the fans to begin hating him.

This officially began the father-and-son feud we have been waiting to see. Dominik would take the feud to another level, making it very personal between him and his father. He criticized Rey for how he was raised and how he has been living under his shadow. During any of Dominik’s promos to this day, he gets so obnoxiously ‘booed’ by the crowd that you can barely hear him.

Dominik continues to disrespect other wrestlers and legends. He inserts himself into feuds he isn’t involved in and has become known for “running his mouth.” This makes the fans despise him more.

Mami

“Mami” Rhea Ripley is arguably in her prime years in WWE and doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon. Despite The Judgement Day being heels, Rhea Ripley is respected by the audience.

She impresses every week with her in-ring skills and mic work. She is arguably one of the most captivating women in WWE right now.

Her relationship with Dominik Mysterio is fascinating, with her being his “mami.” While Ripley was out with an injury due to Liv Morgan’s hands, Dominik grew closer with Morgan.

The relationship formed between Mysterio and Morgan is also a strange one, making him flustered between her and Ripley.

Pinning Dominik against these prominent stars who are immensely over with the audience enhances his heel character. He is so hated by everyone that it is hard to imagine anyone cheering him anytime soon.

He carries himself with cockiness and ignorance, always using The Judgement Day to his advantage, making himself arguably one of the most hated men in WWE.

Dominik hasn’t fully turned on Ripley, but his relationship with Morgan shows how he betrayed her in her absence. Did Dominik not only turn on his blood family but would he turn on someone in his Judgement Day family?

Will his decision be made by SummerSlam 2024, when Liv Morgan defends her Women’s Championship against Rhea Ripley?
