What Comes Next for Pat McAfee and The Wyatt Sicks?

Bo Dallas and his Wyatt Sicks have been impressive in their sit-down interviews with Uncle Howdy, and their fight against Chad Gable and his new family is heating up. There is still one loose end that needs some explaining.

There is a pro-bowl-sized hole in the Wyatt Sicks saga, and his name is Pat McAfee. From the night that Uncle Howdy and his family appeared on Raw in a bloody, violent fashion, Pat McAfee has been part of their message.

Their easter eggs on the show bring in some new potential fans while adding an air of mystery about their beef or alliance. Thus far, the only time Pat wasn’t asked to be a spokesperson for the group was when he legitimately missed a show. So what comes next for Pat McAfee and The Wyatt Sicks? It could just be WWE tying in a mainstream star with a hot act. It could, though, be something more.

A Voice to the Voiceless: Pat McAfee as Unlikely Ally for The Wyatt Sicks

In wrestling, it is always safe to assume that two guys are going to fight when they cross paths with one another. That is, after all, the entire point. A feud between the Sicks and Pat McAfee would seem all but guaranteed, given how many times the two acts have connected on screen. Even if that faceoff eventually happens, it doesn’t need to be next for Pat Mcafee and The Wyatt Sicks.

Instead, Bo can see McAfee as an opportunity. He can have his voice, which reaches far more ears than almost anyone else in WWE, speak the Wyatt message.

It is unlikely that Pat McAfee is the rumored last man of the Wyatt Sicks faction. More likely, though, is a Bo Dallas appearance on Pat’s show. A wrestling cult leader would give anything for a microphone and platform like Pat McAfee Show. The interview can start like a regular guest spot, too.

Only as Pat’s usual friends begin to get comfortable does Bo go into messaging mode to build support for his cause. With each nodding head, the Wyatts will make their case and ensure that their voices are no longer drowned out by the noise McAfee himself so aptly represents in wrestling media.

On the somewhat campier side, Pat and his usual panelists can sit on one side while Bo and his family join them on the other. Send Dexter Lumis to silently watch the show in Ohio with Pat’s equally silent co-host, A.J. Hawk, for good measure.

McAfee and his team are set to join the WWE 2k24 roster at the end of July, so working all of them in as the platform for taking the world of Wyatt truly global could be a neat tie-in as well if Pat is willing to dedicate an episode to keeping it kayfabe.

All Which They Cannot Be: A Major Match is What is Next for Pat McAfee and The Wyatt Sicks

If McAfee, who isn’t a full-time talent, is going to be a proper rival with a match at one of the upcoming shows, perhaps Royal Rumble in Indianapolis, then a strong motive needs to be explored. Pat and Bray did not cross paths, and neither did Bo Dallas, Erick Rowan, Dexter Lumis, or Joe Gacy. So their issues can’t be caused by previous experience.

The general mood of their faction is that of a team of outsiders looking at life and loss through the lens of personal injustice.

This lends itself to a possible angle. Pat and Bray are the same age, and they were born 21 days apart, in fact. McAfee himself mentioned this in his on-air tribute to Bray. The WWE Universe has always been warm to Pat, whereas Bray, in his active runs, had more of a mixed reaction. Jealousy could be the motivator.

If the Sicks take issue with McAfee receiving acclaim that Bray did not get, and the subtext being that he cannot get, that could be enough to ignite a compelling feud. Similarly, the issue can stem from a belief that Pat doesn’t deserve his acclaim. Each of their messages to him on his Pat McAfee Show includes the phrase “you lied.”

So far that message has remained a cryptic challenge without any context. Instead of making something up, imagine that Bo, correctly or not, calls McAfee out as a fraud undeserving of his WWE fans. That would definitely get a response. McAfee started his beef and heel run in NXT against Adam Cole on similar grounds, and it’s been long enough that it could work again.

Make Them Remember: A Massacre is Coming Next for Pat McAfee and The Wyatt Sicks.

As powerful as every Uncle Howdy interview has been from a story and, frankly, acting perspective, two lines from early on still stick out. Bo Dallas laments, “What am I supposed to do, let him become a mausoleum?” in reference to his brother.

Later in that same segment, he more defiantly exclaims, “They wanted to forget about all of us…we made them remember.” He sees his return to his brother’s legacy as a way to seek retribution and secure his legacy.

Dallas and his crew feel they must exact their revenge on the whole of WWE. It’s hard when his first target is a heel who abused his “family,” but those lines are pivotal. This group did not appear because Chad Gable was nasty to Maxxine Dupri and Otis. Gable just picked a bad weekend to berate his family. Pat McAfee is a WWE guy in a lot of ways that matter.

He is a commentator, which is inherently seen less as “talent” by fans and more like a GM, part of the organization. Pat also has enough business muscle to help book all of the big three PLEs, including WrestleMania, for his hometown within two years. Since his hometown is Indianapolis and not, say, Miami, that is impressive.

There are very few available avatars for the entity that is WWE. Pat McAfee and Michael Cole are two of the best. They are the literal voice of the product for millions of fans each year.

The Wyatts could skip the feud and jump straight to an all-out attack. They can have Bo and his team act out some of the viciousness we have thus far only imagined. Doing it to McAfee and not another talent will make it clear that WWE, the institution, is on notice, not just half of the active Raw roster.

Should The Wyatts Really Start Something with Pat McAfee?

Does it make sense that Wyatt Sicks, or Bo Dallas specifically, would have any beef at all with Pat McAfee? Not yet. The complex emotions on display, mixed with the usual cryptic wrestling promo, mean that they can find a way to connect him to their mission. As a friend or foe, if they want Pat, they can figure something out.

In a lot of ways, though, moving from Chad Gable to a feud with Pat McAfee is a good choice. If proper face or heel alignments do not bind Uncle Howdy et al. then a high-profile hero can make that clear.

If the ultimate narrative here is about the lore of Bray Wyatt collapsing in on itself, then some good guys are going to need to get involved. Braun Strowman and Alexa Bliss are not going to come to Chad Gable’s aid, no matter how violent the attacks get.

WWE may not want to go in that direction yet, but eventually, they will. Pat can help them get there and can be our canary in the coal mine. We will ride along with Bo as he crushes the master Chad Gable or the whole of the Final Testament.

Escalating violence is hard to display in wrestling. Fans are usually out for blood. That they started at a high level of intensity won’t help either. They could take out McAfee right away or wait until after he’s of use to their message.

When they turn on him, whenever this current posture of menace becomes an act of malice, it will snap us back to our senses. Sacrificing an energetic commentator to embodiment Wyatt’s nihilism will make sure we remember what we learned on night one. You do not mess with Bo or his family.
