The Uncomfortable Stories For A New Era In WWE

The Uncomfortable Stories for a New Era In WWE

Storylines like Dominik Mysterio/Liv Morgan and the Wyatt Sicks are exactly what WWE needs and has been missing over the last 15-20 years.

Time to Push the Envelope? Yes!

Is it controversial? Sure! But the viewership numbers sure don’t lie.

For the last three weeks, videos featuring Dom/Liv/The Wyatt Sick6 have been the most viewed across all WWE social media platforms. This speaks volumes in terms of what people want to see on WWE programming.

For two decades, WWE fans have been longing for stories that engage them and are entertaining. It’s been far and few between.

When the pen switched from Vince McMahon to Triple H last year, there was a glimmer of hope. However, it wasn’t until WrestleMania 40 that fans truly started to see a shift in how WWE TV was going to be presented.

Coming from the Attitude Era himself, Triple H knows that was the time fans were most invested in what WWE was putting out. While ratings today are not the primary metric, during the Attitude Era, they were and the numbers were incredibly huge.

The viewership of today is reaching and exceeding those levels of 1999. But – and it is a big one – it wasn’t until Triple H started pushing the envelope once again.

This started with The Bloodline/Cody Rhodes/Seth Rollins story, introducing more violence, blood, and swearing back into the show. It has been continued with the sexualizing of Morgan with her “Daddy” kink and the murderous nature of the Wyatt Sicks.

The IWC Strikes Again

Despite the criticism from some who have deemed the stories “uncomfortable”, there is a high amount of interest in what will come of both these angles as they progress in the coming weeks. WWE cannot give into the court of public opinion.

The lawsuit McMahon is involved in should have zero barring on the storylines that are put on television. Many TV shows/movies go much further without repercussions.

Where To Go Next?

Both stories are multi-layered with tons of possible outcomes. With the PG era, came a lot of predictability that this era is desperately trying to (and should) get away from.

What will Rhea Ripley do when she returns? Who will Mysterio side with? Whose side is the rest of The Judgement Day on?

Who are the Wyatt Sicks targeting, and why? Will there be a sixth member? Will Alexa Bliss have a role, if any?

WWE is in a new era with TKO and, in order to top what the McMahon family did with it, they need as many people watching the shows as possible. Controversy creates cash and, in this case, WWE is sitting on a lot of it

The ride is just beginning, folks, no seat at the table for those uncomfortable.
