Drew McIntyre has QUIT and is no longer with WWE. Or, at least, that’s what he’s telling us.
During the WWE Raw episode on Monday 17th June 2024, McIntyre made his way to the ring and cut a surprisingly short promo.
After CM Punk cost him the World Heavyweight Championship at WWE Clash at the Castle 2024, many had assumed that the ‘Scottish Psychopath’ would be out for violent revenge on Raw. That’s why his uncharacteristically short segment was so shocking.
The Summer of Drew McIntyre
Of course, the expectation has been that McIntyre and CM Punk would be feuding for the majority of the summer, if not the rest of the year, but there are now plenty of questions to be asked.
With WWE’s recent work with other promotions, the opportunity is there to have McIntyre pop up in various different locations. Perhaps he could make his way to the likes of TNA or Pro Wrestling NOAH, following in the footsteps of AJ Styles.
This story has the potential to be one of the more captivating pieces of work in recent WWE, especially with the added links to the ‘Summer of Punk’ in 2011. If WWE are interested in replicating that story, they should have McIntyre show up all over the place.
Scottish SmackDown Psychopath
On the other hand, it could be even simpler for McIntyre and Punk. During the post-show press conference after WWE Clash at the Castle 2024, CM Punk explained that he will be on SmackDown, emanating from his hometown of Chicago, on June 21st.
If McIntyre has “quit”, he may have simply cut his ties with the red brand. If that’s the case, he could turn up on Friday night and enact a brutal beating on ‘the Voice of the Voiceless’ in his own backyard.
The idea of the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion “quitting” the company, just to turn up on SmackDown, feels underwhelming, but it is absolutely a possibility.
It’s going to be interesting to see how this story pans out, especially considering the intensity of the rivalry between McIntyre and Punk at this moment in time. Will we see McIntyre on WWE television again any time soon? Only time will tell.
