US Champion: Missing In Action

Another WWE PLE has taken place without the WWE United States Champion. WWE Clash at the Castle 2024 has come and gone, and the trip to Scotland was made without Logan Paul.

Since winning the title at WWE Crown Jewel 2023, Paul has only defended it twice. After Roman Reigns and Gunther had their record-breaking title reigns ended at WWE WrestleMania 40, it seemed that the era of part-time champions was over.

However, Paul remains a reminder of a bygone era. His lack of weekly presence on television has left SmackDown without a mid-card champion for over six months, with fans clamoring for a changing of the guard.

Thankfully, it seems as though the WWE United States Champion has his next opponent lined up.

With Everybody Sayin’…

LA Knight (Yeah!) has been antagonizing Paul over the past few weeks, with his most recent endeavor seeing him break into “The Maverick”s’ home and having a dip in the pool. It appears as though the two are set to clash for the title sooner rather than later.

Although the next PLE on the slate is WWE Money in the Bank 2024, WWE has an opportunity to let this story run a little longer, with WWE SummerSlam 2024 taking place in Cleveland, Ohio.

Full Circle

Given WWE’s recent reluctance to give hometown stars a win on their return (see Drew McIntyre at WWE Clash at the Castle 2022… and 2024), it would be irresponsible of us to assume that Paul will pick up a big win in Cleveland on August 3rd. With that in mind, SummerSlam would also be a fitting occasion for LA Knight to capture his first championship in WWE finally.

One year ago, he won the Slim Jim Battle Royal at WWE SummerSlam 2023 and it seemed to most that Knight was headed for the top. However, Knight has been unsuccessful in his championship chases thus far.

The opportunity to bring his story full circle, one year on from his biggest WWE victory to date, is a tantalizing one. It’s very likely that Paul’s days as the US Champion are numbered, and LA Knight seems poised to be the man who puts the final nail in the coffin.

The ‘Megastar’ deserves the chance to get some gold around his waist, and SummerSlam should be the spot to do so.
