Adam Copeland Confirms Fractured Tibia: “Unsure of Timeframe” For His Return

In a video posted to Twitter on May 28th, Adam Copeland confirmed that he fractured his tibia during his Barbed Wire Steel Cage match against Malakai Black at AEW Double or Nothing 2024.

He explained that despite “feeling really good” lately, he “got cocky” and has unfortunately suffered the injury to his leg. The ‘Rated R Superstar’ will require surgery, which will likely rule him out for a number of months.

The average recovery time for a fractured tibia can be anywhere between 4-9 months, depending on the severity of the injury. So, AEW fans shouldn’t expect to see Adam Copeland wrestle for the majority of the rest of 2024.

A possible return at AEW WrestleDream 2024 could be on the cards, especially given that it would be the anniversary of Copeland’s AEW debut. More realistically, however, it’s likely that Copeland could take a break from active competition until 2025.

Of course, you should never say never. Wrestlers have been known for their near-superhuman recovery times over the years, but at 50-years old, it’s wise to assume Copeland will take the full recovery time necessary.

Potentially, Copeland could feature in another role within the company. His insight would undoubtedly be welcome behind the commentary desk from time to time, especially given that he is one of the most experience members of the AEW roster.

It remains to be seen what will happen with the TNT Championship, but it’s likely that Copeland will vacate the belt imminently. A swift victory for Malakai Black could be in order, or perhaps a more surprising member of the roster could stake their claim for the gold.

Ultimately, everyone at Last Word on Pro Wrestling wishes Adam Copeland all the best and hopes for a full recovery for the The ‘Rated R Superstar’.
