Another Saudi Arabia WWE PLE is in the books. King and Queen of the Ring should be considered a success by the office and fans alike. From a monetary standpoint, we are sure that a profit was made off the show, but it was also a successful night between the ropes. This might have been the most solid night of wrestling that we have seen from Saudi PLEs.
Now that we have crowned our King and Queen, where does WWE go from here? We are a few months out from SummerSlam with plenty of content to get through. What will be in store for WWE as it moves towards “the biggest party of the summer”? Let’s take a look.
Is a McIntyre-King General Showdown Looming?
Gunther winning King of the Ring was the smart move, and giving him a world title shot at SummerSlam means the main event is close for the Ring General, but who will he face?
It was announced that Drew McIntyre will take on Damian Priest at Clash at the Castle, with McIntyre having a great shot at winning the championship on home soil. It would be a huge win but one that would set up a monumental clash at SummerSlam.
McIntyre and Gunther at SummerSlam are best for business. The two men have put on classics before, and the world title in the mix would only heighten the stakes.
Who will be next for The American Nightmare?
Cody Rhodes has been treading water slightly since winning the WWE Championship. He has had great matches, but he hasn’t been in a program that he could really sink his teeth into. That is something that could be changing soon.
On the SmackDown before King & Queen of the Ring, Rhodes ran into his old mentor, Randy Orton. It was a cordial meeting that was steeped in drama as Orton couldn’t take his eyes off the strap on Rhodes’ shoulder. It was a small tease but one that could lead to Orton going after the title. A program that would be great for both men.
What Will Happen With Bayley?
It appears as if Bayley and Nia Jax will be set to lock horns at SummerSlam, but what will the women’s champ do in the meantime?
A great option for her would be taking on Piper Niven. Niven had put the boots to Bayley on SmackDown and was featured during the PLE. She would be a great opponent for Bayley and provides a fresh matchup. Bayley has to do something before her meeting with Jax, and Niven would be the right call.
Does The Monday Night Drama Continue?
A surprise on Saturday was Liv Morgan winning the Women’s Championship from Becky Lynch. It was a match that was dripping with controversy as Dominik Mysterio interfered to inadvertently cost Lynch the championship.
WWE has been teasing a relationship between Morgan and Mysterio for a few weeks now, and it looks like it’s going to continue to play out. Mysterio is clearly going to side with Morgan but the drama with Lynch will continue.
Monday night will see a rematch for the championship and more shenanigans will ensue. It would make sense to keep this going for a month or two until SummerSlam comes around.
Logan Paul Will Pull A Vanishing Act
Logan Paul was great as a foil for Rhodes, but his taking the fall was inevitable. Now what for the Maverick? Probably nothing until SummerSlam.
Paul is not someone who is going to be on television every week. He is on a part-time schedule and his other commitments pull him away from the company. If one were to guess, we won’t be seeing the United States champion until the build for SummerSlam begins. It’s in his hometown and he will be featured heavily.
What Is In Store For Alpha Academy?
The Alpha Academy is bound for a split. Ever since Chad Gable turned heel, this was inevitable, but things seem to get sped up on Saturday. Otis messed up his interference, costing Gable the match and, if their post-match stare down was any indication, a split is coming.
What will be more interesting coming out of the split is what Gable does. He is drawing more comparisons to Kurt Angle every day, including adopting his “You Suck” chants. Now is the time for him to lean in and bring the Creed Brothers into the fold. Creating a new Team Angle, or Gable for this instance, would be a great way to continue his heel ways and get him a realistic shot at the Intercontinental Championship.
