WWE is only over two weeks away from hosting the “Showcase of the Immortals” WrestleMania 40. The card is shaping up to be one of the best ever, and this tremendous picture will only continue to become clearer on this week’s edition of WWE SmackDown.
The last episode saw The Rock serenade the good people of Memphis with a scathing melody taking jabs at the ‘American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes and WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, ahead of their historic tag team match at WWE WrestleMania XL.
Plus, we saw Nick Aldis name the challengers for Logan Paul’s WWE United States Championship in the form of Kevin Owens and ‘The Viper’ Randy Orton.
This week’s card is no slouch either. So, let’s get into it. Here’s a preview of WWE Friday Night SmackDown. Let’s run it down.
Full WWE SmackDown Match Card:
- Rey Mysterio vs. Santos Escobar
- WrestleMania XL Tag Team Championship Qualifying Match: The Street Profits vs. Authors of Pain
- WrestleMania XL Tag Team Championship Qualifying Match: The OC vs. Grayson Waller & Austin Theory
- Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns & ‘ The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes Face-To-Face
Batalla Familiar
Enough is enough for WWE Legend and Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio. Last week on SmackDown, Santos Escobar scored a win over Mysterio’s heir apparent Dragon Lee, albeit with the constant interference of Angel and Berto.
After the bout, Legado del Fantasma would put the beat down on Lee. Fortunately, LWO cohort Carlito came to Dragon Lee’s aid but was quickly overpowered by the numbers game. Rey Mysterio then cleaned house and laid down the challenge for a match on this week’s Friday Night SmackDown.
Not long after that, WWE higher-ups made the call to make it official. It goes without saying but Escobar thought he was done with Mysterio and the LWO, which we now know isn’t the case. On Friday night fight night, two men that both considered each other family collide, in an attempt to end this war once and for all.
Will Santos Escobar finally end this chapter? Or will Rey Mysterio put the nail in the coffin and finish what Santos started?

Mano a Mano
As mentioned earlier, The Rock sent a message to the number-one contender through a song filled with ill-intent on behalf of his superstar cousin.
On this week’s WWE SmackDown, ‘The Tribal Chief’ himself Roman Reigns takes over the Blue brand as he goes face-to-face with his Cody Rhodes a little over two weeks before their monumental main event rematch at WrestleMania XL for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
For Reigns, it’s a chance to make another statement and put Rhodes on notice. As for Cody, it’s an opportunity to send a message that he will be the one to end this historic reign and finally ‘finish the story.’
What will the night two WrestleMania XL headliners have to say to the WWE Universe and each other?
