The Elimination Chamber is a match that WWE uses when multiple scores need to be settled. When the men/or women involved in the feud number more than any regular match can handle. It is a time when miles of chain and metal separate those wrestlers from the world and a time when no outside interference is supposed to occur.
The principle of the Elimination Chamber is that the participants are trapped in a cage. They are secluded so that no one can affect the outcome of the contest, but of course, in the world of wrestling, never say never. There have been numerous times in the history of the chamber match that even the structure itself doesn’t keep anyone out. Below are the more famous of those times.
HBK Goads The Deadman
Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker put on a show at Wrestlemania 25. The two men engaged in what many consider to be the best Wrestlemania match in history. It was a masterpiece that, in HBK’s eyes, had the wrong ending. An ending that he was hoping to rectify at the next year’s Wrestlemania.
HBK was urging The Undertaker to face him one more time, but The Deadman was having none of it. He felt that there was no need to take on a man he had already defeated. This drove HBK mad, and after getting eliminated from the Royal Rumble, the desperation kicked in.
That year, the Elimination Chamber match, for the World Championship, came down to reigning champ The Undertaker and Chris Jericho. ‘Taker had the match well in hand before Michaels came from beneath the chamber, super kicking The Undertaker and allowing Jericho to win the match. It was the last act of a desperate man and one that pushed The Undertaker into a Wrestlemania rematch.
The Wyatt Family Steps Up To John Cena
The Wyatt Family was looking to make a name for themselves in WWE. The quickest way to do so? Go after the biggest name in the company. Following the Royal Rumble, Wyatt and his followers made it their business to make life miserable for the leader of Cenation. It started during a six-man tag match where the family interfered and put the boots on Cena.
Their medalling in Cena’s affairs continued for the weeks leading up to Elimination Chamber as they met Cena everywhere he showed up. It included some great promos and led us to anticipate that Cena would not leave the chamber match as WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
Cena had things well in hand during the match and looked poised to win another strap until the lights went out and up popped the Wyatt Family. Bray nailed Cena with a Sister Abagail, allowing Orton to get the three count on Cena. It was a telegraphed interference but one that still got a pretty good pop from the crowd.
Edge Performs A Drive By On Kofi Kingston
The Rated R Superstar will forever be known as the ultimate opportunist. There was not an angle that Edge wasn’t willing to work or explore to advance his cause. He was synonymous with Money in the Bank and would exploit every relationship possible to maintain his hold on the world title.
At No Way Out, Edge walked into one Chamber match as the WWE Champion. In an interesting twist, Edge was eliminated 3 minutes into the contest, thus guaranteeing a new WWE Champion would be crowned. It was a massive blow to the man’s ego, but he dipped into his back of tricks to bounce back.
When Kofi was making his way out for the main event, Edge blindsided him and smashed his head against the stairs. It incapacitated Kofi, and Edge locked himself into one of the pods. It was a resourceful and vicious move that cemented him as the Ultimate Opportunist.
Corporate Kane Puts A Halt On The Yes Movement
The partnership of Kane and Daniel Bryan was a stroke of genius by WWE. The thrown-together tag team showed incredible chemistry and was able to craft some great vignettes. They revitalized a dying tag team division and created a buzz around Daniel Bryan. It was a great partnership that made Kane’s betrayal all the more devasting years later.
Daniel Bryan was deep into his miracle run to the main event when he entered the Elimination Chamber. The Authority had thwarted him at every turn, but the chamber presented a way for him to avoid their interference, or so we thought. Once the Wyatt Family cost the match for Cena, Corporate Kane felt it was his turn to cost Bryan.
The Big Red Machine attacked Bryan while Daniel was primed to win back his world title. It immediately sucked the air out of the arena, fans were white hot for a Bryan win, but his former partner robbed them of that satisfaction.
The Maverick Gets One Over On The Architect
Logan Paul has always been about the spotlight. He demands its attention and does whatever he can to ensure it remains fixed on him. He is about the big time and the big moments, and that’s why he had to ensure that his first Wrestlemania singles match was an epic one.
Paul has always been great at getting under everyone’s skin. He is a natural heel and one who put all his effort into combating Seth Rollins. It started at the Royal Rumble, where Paul eliminated Set from the contest. This sparked a feud that got very personal, with both men spitting fire during their promos.
As it continued, it got more heated, but it was Paul’s involvement inside the chamber that pushed Rollins over the top.
In the chamber match for the United States Championship Rollins, he had everything well in hand. It had come down to him and Austin Theory. Rollins had things going his way and looked to be on the cusp of being crowned the new champ. That is when Logan Paul sneaks into the chamber and blasts Rollins. It cost him the match and set up their Wrestlemania match.
