Preview: MLW Fusion (11/24/23) – Fallout From Fightland, Thanksgiving Special

WTF at MLW Fightland ahead of MLW Fusion.

Fusion this week is riding the momentum of Fightland. Some feuds ended definitively, with their ripples likely to affect the next two weeks of MLW programming before One Shot on December 7th. However, several new directions and developments, like the return of Alex Hammerstone, will certainly impact the MLW World Heavyweight Championship picture.

This week’s Thanksgiving episode offers both table-setting for One Shot but also a meaty main event.

What happened at Fightland:

  • The Second Gear Crew climbed the ladder to gain the MLW World Tag Team Championships. Post-match, the tension between The Calling’s Rickey Shane Page and AKIRA spilled over. The rest of The Calling, Talon, and Cannonball have sided with Page, the current MLW Openweight Champion.
  • Matt Cardona defeated the Mance Warner in a Loser Leaves MLW match. Cardona had help as Warner’s real-life fiancé, and Cardona’s second from GCW and the indies, Steph De Lander, debuted and turned on the person who she is supposed to love the most. Yet the “Southern Psycho” was able to knock out Mister Saunt Laurent before being escorted from the building.
  • Ichiban and Mascara Dorada bested Rocky Romero and Barbaro Cavernario.
  • Alex Kane retained beating Jacob Fatu as referee stoppage in a nearly fifty-minute encounter.
  • After the main event, WTF attacked Kane and his Bomaye Fight Club. Alex Hammerstone returned, joining forces with WTF. WTF were also joined by another unidentified figured (Joshua Bishop).

The post-main event actions will surely spill into this week’s episode of Fusion as…

What to expect on MLW Fusion:

Will the WTF Feast at the expense of The Bombaye Fight Club?

Advertised two weeks ago on Fusion #190, In the words of “Filthy” Tom Lawler, WTF will feast on the bones of The Bomaye Fight Club. MLW World Heavyweight Champion, Alex Kane and his Mr Thomas will be teaming to face the no 1 contender, Matt Cardona and Tom Lawlor.

Given that several weeks ago, WTF were responsible for taking out Mr Thomas backstage before he could take on Jacob Fatu, revenge will be on the big man’s mind. The champion will want to strike back also after the sports entertainers attacked him after his defence at Fightland. Given the size of both factions, it will be interesting to see if outside interference pays a part before, during, and after the match.

WTF, what will they say?

Surely, after ridding MLW of Mance Warner and recruiting Alex Hammerstone, WTF promoter, Mr Saint Laurent will have a lot to say? Will we also hear from the newly returned ex-world champion, Hammerstone also? He will likely have a lot on his mind, given the time he has been away. Will Steph De Lander explain her actions? Will Cardona brag more and repeat why he believes he should be the MLW World Heavyweight Champion?

The Road to One Shot, Fallout from the rest of Fightland

The card for One Shot is already stacked with a huge MLW World Championship match. Two women’s championship matches. Also, a straight-up fight between “Filthy” Tom Lawlor vs. Satoshi Kojima. Expect to hear more from the competitors and promoters.

How will Salina del a Renta react to her team’s loss? Will Ichiban receive an MLW World Middleweight Championship shot against champion Rocky Romero?

What will the new World Tag Team Champions, The Second Gear Crew, do without Mance Warner? What’s next now? The Calling have turned their backs on AKIRA.

Young Prospects on display:

While the main event will feature the big guns of MLW, expect on the midcard a two exhibition bouts. For the past few weeks MLW has dedicated one match each week to young newcomers. New fighters like Brett Ryan Gosselin and Griffin McCoy have picked up debut wins. From the MLW graphic on Fusion, expect to see men’s action involving TJ Crawford and featherweight action featuring Tiara James taking on Notorious Mimi.
