WWE NXT Halloween Havoc Recap (10/31/23) – Wes Lee Returns on Week Two

WWE NXT this week produced the second part of the two-week Halloween Havoc special. There were championships on the line, an important contract up for grabs, as well as a load of hard-hitting action. Here are the main talking points from the October 31 NXT.

Ilja Dragunov Remains The Czar Of NXT With Trilogy Victory

The trilogy match between Ilja Dragunov and Carmelo Hayes was a highly anticipated one, as both looked to be the one to write this next chapter in their story. The rivalry between Dragunov and Hayes even extended beyond the NXT Championship, with a win over the other resulting in gaining the title being a bonus. Though the rivalry is still young, Dragunov and Hayes would enter the most important chapter in their story on Halloween Havoc week two.

It was a back-and-forth, hard-hitting affair as Dragunov and Hayes competed in and around the ring trying to subdue the other. Just as it seemed as though Hayes would put an end to it all, Trick Williams would make his return and that momentary distraction ultimately played a role in the way the match ended. Dragunov capitalized on the moment and successfully retained the championship, standing firmly in the top spot as the ‘Czar of NXT’.

Williams would enter the ring and assist Hayes to his feet before the two had an intense face-off. Before that could even be explored further, the cameras had to quickly cut to backstage where Baron Corbin was seen attacking Dragunov. The NXT title picture remains a highly contentious one.

Wes Lee Returns And Attacks ‘Dirty’ Dominik Mysterio

The rivalry between NXT North American Champion, Dominik Mysterio, and Nathan Frazer reached fever pitch on the October 31 edition of NXT. The two contested in a bout with the title on the line, and it was as contentious as expected. This was a high-risk match with both Mysterio and Frazer looking to walk away from Halloween Havoc week two as the titleholder.

Mysterio managed to retain the championship, set to make it over a month into his second reign with the title. Before the celebrations could get underway, a surprise return confronted the champion. Former NXT North American Champion, Wes Lee, would be the one to make a return to the action.

For close to two months, Lee has been out of action but he would resurface on week two of Halloween Havoc. Lee attacked Mysterio, and it appears he will challenge to once again be the titleholder.

Lola Vice Is The NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament Winner

The NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament came to an end as Lola Vice and Kelani Jordan met in the tournament finals. Both Vice and Jordan brought their own unique feel to the tournament and hoped to inch their way toward a potential title shot.

Following a high-stakes match, Vice came out victorious and claimed the contract thus becoming the 2023 NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament winner. All that remains is for Vice to stake her claim at the NXT Women’s Championship.
