ROH World Tag Team Championship Vacated: Match Announced For Supercard Of Honor

The future of the Ring Of Honor (ROH) World Tag Team Championship fell into question following the passing of Jay Briscoe (Jamin Dale Pugh) this past January 17 in a tragic car accident. Since then, his younger brother and fellow ROH Tag Team Champion, Mark Briscoe, has still been presented as such, holding both title belts when present on television in tribute to his late older brother.

However, as of AEW Rampage tonight, the ROH World Tag Team Championship is officially vacant. New champions are set to be crowned at ROH’s upcoming Pay-Per-View event, Supercard Of Honor, this coming March 31 from the Galen Center in Los Angeles, California over WrestleMania Weekend. The match to determine new champions will be a ladder match with an apropos name over it: Reach For The Sky Ladder Match.

The reference, of course, coming from Jay Briscoe’s notable ROH theme with him quoting the phrase. Peculiarly enough, it has been explained that it is a reference to none other than Toy Story, which Jay would watch with his kids. Something that was explained during the great Jay’s funeral service; it was revealed that Jay saw the phrase as “giving your very best in everything you do.” A perfectly fitting name for what will without a doubt be an extremely emotional ladder match that will see a team try to fill the legendary shoes left behind by The Briscoes.

Already announced for the match are the team of Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix, The Lucha Brothers. This appearance by the Lucha Brothers will mark their debut under the ROH banner. The duo have already held the Assistencia Asesoria y Administración (AAA) Tag Team Championships, as well as Impact Wrestling‘s, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla‘s (PWG), AEW’s and Major League Wrestling‘s (MLW) own Tag Team Championships. This will obviously add to their legacy, if they win. But we still don’t know what other teams may be involved in this match. More will no doubt be revealed tonight.
