Starting this month, March 2023, we’ll be taking a dive into the independent wrestling domain and highlighting various promotions and matchups. With that, March 2023 looks to be coming in like a lion with WrestleMania weekend kicking off right at the very end of the month and a number of amazing matchups happening on the independent scene. Let’s examine some of the key matchups that are happening this month.
What to Watch in Independent Wrestling: March 2023
Janai Kai vs. Billie Starkz – JERSEY CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING | 2 OUT OF 3 FALLS | GCW YOUTUBE (LIVE) | MARCH 4, 2023
With March stacked to the brim with great matchups, this must be one of the most solid ways to start the month! Janai Kai and Billie Starkz are no strangers to each other. They’ve had multiple encounters in JCW and GCW. The only difference here is that there are no tag partners and more than one fall. If you haven’t witnessed Kai’s martial arts style, be prepared to see roundhouses and quick throws. If you aren’t familiar with Starkz, then it’s time to climb out from under the rock. Starkz brings a Joshi-style approach and is guaranteed to clash in the best way possible with Kai.
Allie Katch vs. Charles Mason: GAME CHANGER WRESTLING | CAGE MATCH | FITE+ (LIVE) | MARCH 5, 2023
If you have been following GCW over the past several months, you already know what’s at stake in this matchup. The torment that Charles Mason has inflicted on Allie Katch, dating back to October 2022, has driven them to this point. Charles Mason enters this fight with the psychological mind games fresh in the mind of Katch, and should be on full display here. With Katch unable to have the other half of Bussy (EFFY) as backup, will she be able to put down the man who’s been a constant source of terror?
Bryan Keith (c) vs. Cole Radrick: FREELANCE WRESTLING | FREELANCE LEGACY CHAMPIONSHIP | IWTV (LIVE) |MARCH 9, 2023
Bryan Keith has made his name well known across the US during 2022 and is looking to make 2023 his “golden” year. With successful defenses against Speedball Mike Bailey and GPA, Keith’s momentum appears to be on overdrive. His challenger, Cole Radrick, is no stranger to wins involving gold though. During 2022, Radrick managed to hold titles in GCW and Unsanctioned Pro. Radrick also looks to bring in skills learned while traveling overseas. With both Keith and Radrick having previously held gold in New Texas Pro, the conditions are ripe to make this battle an epic one. This matchup could potentially set the course for both wrestlers’ year-end review.
Nate Matthews (c) vs. ZDP: NEW WAVE PRO | NWP Championship Match | IWTV (DELAYED) | March 11, 2023
For the past few months, ZDP has been on a rocket trajectory in New Wave Pro. With wins over former WWE superstar Carlito and a win in the Eminent 8 tournament, ZDP has put himself in the biggest fight of his career; a battle for the New Wave Pro Championship. Nate Matthews is coming into the matchup with a triple-threat title victory over Eric Dillinger and Mad Dog Connelly. After a four-year run to the top, Nate Matthews takes on ZDP for his first defense. The question stands; is this a one-and-done for the current champ or does ZDP’s run to the top fall short? Also, how will the special guest enforcer, Al Snow, change the tone of the match-up?
Tre Lamar vs. Matt Diesel: OHIO WRESTLING ALLIANCE | FITE+ (LIVE) | MARCH 17, 2023:
This match is going to be off the hook! Tre Lamar is a well-established talent that has many promotions under his belt. Matt Diesel is building his reputation as a great talent that’s hungry for adequate challengers. With both Lamar and Diesel looking to gain serious momentum going into 2023, this matchup shows a lot of promise. These two athletes have met previously with Lamar taking the win. Could this be the rubber match that Diesel needs to get the “W” or is Lamar looking to repeat?
Hijo Del Vikingo (c) vs. Arez: WARRIOR WRESTLING | WARRIOR LUCHA CHAMPIONSHIP | PWTV (LIVE) | MARCH 25, 2023:
Two of today’s top lucha stars are set to go head-to-head for a title that is still building its reputation. As the current champion, Vikingo has been showcasing his amazing agility and style across the US over the past month and looks to keep the title around his waist. Arez, though, is coming into the match as one of the most serious contenders for the championship, having been featured everywhere during 2022. If you are looking for a match that features maneuvers that you’ve never seen before, this is your title defense to watch!
