Match Point is an ongoing series at Last Word on Pro Wrestling, where we look at intriguing matchups and beyond. They may be dream matches, first-time matchups, or hotly anticipated rematches. Today’s edition will look at the first-time match happening on GCW’s return to Los Angeles this month, Lio Rush vs Komander. A true dream match and a slight crossover between New Japan Pro Wrestling and Big Lucha.
The self-proclaimed “Bad Child” Lio Rush has been making big moves since returning to NJPW late last year, becoming the newest addition of CHAOS and winning Super Jr Tag League alongside YOH.
Lio will challenge Hiromu Takahashi for the IWGP Jr Heavyweight Championship in a future single match since he issued the challenge at NJPW New Beginning in Osaka. This singles match with Komander is about bragging rights but could have major implications in the distant future for both men.

If enough of the right eyes see this singles match, Komander would make a fantastic showcase in New Japan among the Jr Heavyweight division. Game Changer Wrestling really struck a gold mine when the promotion announced this match, the entire world will be anticipating Lio Rush vs Komander. The promotion has showcased lucha libre more often on their shows than the majority of the big-name promotions with many awesome matches and I’m sure this match will steal the show.
Komander has been pegged to have a standout year in professional wrestling in 2023 and the singles match on February 18th will be a definite MOTY contender. Hopefully, fans are gifted with a rematch later in the year but who truly can predict when the world of pro wrestling is constantly changing every single day? Maybe this is just the start of crossover matches between talent from Big Lucha and New Japan Pro Wrestling contracted wrestlers.
