Preview: AEW Rampage Card Tonight (2/10/23)

AEW Rampage card show graphic

The card for AEW Rampage tonight was filmed in front of a live studio audience, or something like that. Rampage was taped after AEW Dynamite, which aired live from the El Paso County Coliseum in El Paso, Texas, and featured The Gunns defeating The Acclaimed through dastardly measures to win the Aew World Tag Team Championship. Tonight on a Rampage, a different title will be on the line as Orange Cassidy looks to defend the All-Atlantic Championship against Lee Moriarty. Also in action will be BCC‘s Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta facing off against Kip Sabian and The Butcher and the Blade, Ruby Soho against Marina Shafir, and several segments from Dustin Rhodes, Jungle Boy, and the returning Mark Briscoe, who seems poised to address the state of the Ring of Honor Tag Team Championship. Let’s dive in to see what tonight’s Rampage has in store.

Moriarty Eyes First AEW Title

Orange Cassidy is well, Orange Cassidy. And if you thought that would change once he became the All-Atlantic Champion, you would be wrong. Now the longest-reigning All-Atlantic Champion, having surpassed PAC during his last title defense, Cassidy has truly been a fighting champion. He’s defended the belt against all comers including notably against Jay Lethal, Trent Barreta, Rush, Rey Fenix, and Katsuyori Shibata. And he’s approached each defense with the same vigor and excitement as he does every time he steps in the ring…Cassidy’s cool, no cares in the world attitude has gotten him far in AEW but he’ll now contend with someone who is looking to chart his own course with the company. Lee Moriarty was a top name when he first joined AEW but since then, he still hasn’t quite found his footing. He’s been lauded for his wrestling ability but it only took him so far. Now though, Moriarty is aligned with The Firm and willing to cut corners to achieve success. Moriarty is a great competitor but so is Cassidy. This should be a great match on the AEW Rampage card between two of AEW’s rising talents.

Trios Action Pits Jon Moxley Against Longtime Frenemy on AEW Rampage Card

One thing AEW has always done well, long before they even introduced the championship, is trios matches. And this week on Rampage should be no different. Expect a chaotic, wild, bruising affair when Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta enter the ring against Kip Sabian and The Butcher and the Blade. BCC and Butcher and Blade are no strangers to each other with the two factions having faced off a few times in AEW. But there is also another thread connecting these two groups, namely, connecting that of Moxley and Blade. Those two go all the way back to Ohio’s Heartland Wrestling Association where they have wrestled both as friend and enemy. Friday on the AEW Rampage card will pit them against each other once more but will also make way for interesting pairings of Butcher and Castagnoli (time to go swinging, anyone?) and Yuta and Sabian, two young-and-hungry competitors still trying to define their legacies. If nothing else, trios matches are fun and AEW always does them well.

Soho and Shafir Square Up for First Time

AEW’s women’s division has been under siege ever since Saraya arrived and allied with Toni Storm to put the ladies on notice. It’s led to some strange bedfellows such as was the case last week when Ruby Soho seemed to genuinely want to check in on Dr. Britt Baker following the assault Baker faced at the hands of AEW’s fearsome duo. Soho and Baker engaged in quite the feud before but you know what they say. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Baker and Soho are a long way from becoming friends but for now, it seems they have a common goal in sight. On Friday though, Soho will have to put Saraya and Storm in the backburner as she takes on Marina Shafir in a first-time matchup. Both women come to this bout with different skillsets but one thing in common, a desire to win and advance toward the title scene. This match should be a great contest but one has to wonder if both Shafir and Soho will need to have eyes in the backs of their heads tonight on AEW Rampage.

A Moment of Your Time for Mark Briscoe on AEW Rampage

The wrestling world’s collective heart has been with Mark Briscoe ever since the tragic news of his brother Jay’s passing due to a fatal car accident. The Briscoes were one of wrestling’s finest tag teams and at the tine of Jay’s death, were in the midst of yet another reign as ROH world tag team champions. Recently, a ban on Mark appearing on AEW TV was lifted as he made his debut a few weeks ago in a tribute match for his brother. When he came out to the ring, he carried both his and Jay’s tag team titles which begs the question, what happens next? Surely Tony Khan won’t strip the Briscoes of the titles under these circumstances. Perhaps Mark will lay them down willingly as it would be easy to see him not wanting to be a tag team wrestler anymore. Or perhaps Mark will find a new partner and keep the reign and Jay’s legacy alive. Either way, everyone is looking forward to hearing what the Chicken has to say tonight on AEW Rampage.

Jungle Boy’s Journey to a Singles Championship Starts Now

Jungle Boy has been a champion before in AEW but that all came crashing down when Christian asserted his control over Luchasaurus and effectively broke up Jurassic Express from the inside. While Jungle Boy has yet to get his hands on his former mentor due to Christian’s injury, the young star has been enjoying a recent run of singles success picking up wins over Brian Cage and Ethan Page. He’s also been teaming with Hook and while that’s been enjoyable, Jungle Boy has his sights set on more than just another tag team. As he made certain in a recent interview, he is planning to win another title this year, only this time it will be a singles championship. Quite the prophecy but if anyone can do it, it is Jungle Boy Jack Perry. His journey to a singles title starts on tonight’s AEW Rampage card.
