Preview: AEW Rampage Card Tonight (12/9/22)

AEW Rampage card tonight and Spoilers - Orange Cassidy defense graphic

It’s Friday night which means its time for another edition of an AEW Rampage card tonight. This week’s episode was taped on Wednesday, December 7th from the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park, Texas. You can read our Rampage spoilers here.

The announced card for AEW Rampage tonight is below:

  • Hikaru Shida (c) vs. The Bunny for the Regina Di Wave Championship
  • The Firm’s Lee Moriarty and Big Bill in action
  • Orange Cassidy defends the AEW All-Atlantic Championship against an opponent of Kip Sabian’s choosing
  • Jon Moxley vs. Konosuke Takeshita
  • We hear from Athena
  • We hear from Ruby Soho and Tay Melo

Jon Moxley vs Konosuke Takeshita

Now that Konosuke Takeshita is All-Elite, it means the former DDT star will have the opportunity for marquee matches with AEW’s top stars. There is no way higher on that list than Jon Moxley, with whom Takeshita squared up with once prior in the interim world title eliminator tournament at Fyter Fest. Since that time, Takeshita has shown why he was someone AEW had their eyes on. The talented 27-year-old has been on an impressive streak since losing to Moxley in July. In fact, he’s only lost one of his last 10 matches since. He’s currently riding a nine-match winning streak. Will that continue on the AEW Rampage card tonight or will AEW’s ace have other plans as he works his way back to reclaim a world championship that he was cheated out of at Full Gear?

We Hear from Athena

Lately, Athena has been showing a more vicious side as she’s been taking down challengers one-by-one in swift fashion. While her list of victories doesn’t ring as top-level, her winning streak is still impressive as Athena hasn’t lost a match since September. With her new attitude and winning ways, Athena has targeted old friend Mercedes Martinez, who she will face off against Saturday at Final Battle for the Ring of Honor Women’s Championship. Not to mention, the match will occur just a stones throw from where Athena grew up and began her wrestling career, something that no doubt adds extra motivation. On the AEW Rampage card tonight, we’ll get to hear from Athena one last time in advance of this match, which is one of the biggest so far in her time in AEW.

Orange Cassidy’s Mystery Opponent

Orange Cassidy and Kip Sabian have not been getting along lately. Although in all fairness, no one, except for his wife, has really been getting along with Sabian lately. But whether he can find a friend in the locker room or outside of it, Sabian has been tasked with picking the opponent for Cassidy’s next open challenge, which will take place tonight on Rampage. Cassidy has had several successful title defenses thus far including over the likes of Rey Fenix, Lee Johnson, Rush, Jake Hager, QT Marshall, and more. But he knew his who his opponent would be those times and could properly prepare. On the AEW Rampage card tonight, the element of the unknown is at play. Sabian is not to be trusted and if anyone has a rabbit to pull out of his sleeve in his quest to end Cassidy’s title reign, it would be the man outside of the box.
