Toni Storm was successful in overcoming Athena, Serena Deeb and Dr. Britt Baker DMD at tonight’s AEW Grand Slam event to defend her interim AEW Women’s World Championship. However, following the culmination of the match, Deeb and Baker teamed up to attack the women’s champion, as well as Athena. Whereas it looked like Jamie Hayter was coming out to save the babyfaces, this turned out to be a red herring as she instantly went on the offensive with an attack on Storm. In an even more shocking turn of events, Saraya (formerly known as WWE’s Paige), entered the ring to begin a stare down with Britt Baker – shocked by the former NXT Women’s and WWE Diva’s Champion’s appearance.

Premature Retirement Reversed?
As we are all aware, Saraya was forced into an early retirement in 2018 due to a neck injury – at just 26 years of age. Much like Bryan Danielson before her, Saraya had been attempting to be cleared for a return to the ring, but was unsuccessful in her attempts at convincing the WWE top brass to allow her to wrestle. It is currently unclear as to whether she has been cleared to wrestle in All Elite Wrestling, though – given the stare down with Britt Baker – it looks highly likely we will see the “Scream Queen” in the ring once more. Saraya is a great gain for the AEW women’s roster and we wish her all the best on her return to the ring, whatever role she occupies.
